Fun podcast by Williams & Blum last Wednesday.

I loved hearing them talk about this year's football road trips. Here are their rankings based on the Williams & Blum Fun Meter:

#1 Jonesboro for Arkansas State.
#2 Boulder for Colorado.
#3 Covington, Kentucky for Cincinnati.
#4 Fort Worth for TCU.
#5 Stillwater for Oklahoma State.

So, what do you think? Do you agree? Disagree? How would you rank them? What would you recommend for the road trips?

K-State isn't included because the Ireland trip is in its own category.

I can't argue much with their ranking. I might have switched TCU for Cincinnati because Fort Worth is such a cool place to visit. So much better than Dallas. I like urban stadiums, but they are awkward for tailgating.

As they said, Jonesboro is the "dive bar of road trips."

Could be tied with a Friday trip to Memphis (Cozy Corner BBQ and the haunted Earnestine & Hazel's bar).

Beer sales in the stadium for a 3pm kickoff. Find dive bars on Saturday night.

Oh, and I'll be driving down with cases of Ames Lager and some of my tailgate gear. Really looking forward to it.

I like going to one road game per year and I am debating between Colorado and TCU...I've seen TCU's stadium up close but never been to a game...I've never seen CU's campus or Folsom Field

I’d say CU since it’s our first game at Folsom in 15 years.

Can’t go wrong with either tbh. Both Denver and DFW alumni chapters are pretty active.

Mostly just because of circumstances, I have already decided to go to Arkansas State and Colorado. Fun to see them show up as #1 and #2 (apart from K-State in Ireland).

Probably won't go to TCU or OSU because I intend to go to Arlington a few weeks later!

If the TCU game was earlier in the year it would be number one. College girls in sundresses and cowboy boots. Enough said

my only hesitation with Colorado is I've heard their fans are rough to be around

We had zero issues the last time we were there, but that was obviously years ago. Might be a few more bad apples with the recent popularity boost, but still won't be anywhere near as bad as going to Iowa City.

Boulder is #1, although the closing of The Harvest House is a severe blow.

Some bad fans, but true anywhere. The horror stories of CU fans I’ve heard came from Nebraska fans, so take that fwiw.

We went there for football a couple times years ago, and went to the basketball game last winter. Zero issues.

The real issue with playing @CU is the altitude. It really matters and give CU a distinctive advantage.

Are you going to serve Buffalo chips in Boulder?

Isn't Jonesboro in a dry county?

I plan on riding the motorcycle down there so I can take an extra day or two to ride about the Ozarks.

Your tailgate gear you say?! Will this be like Akron? haha. We're flying into Memphis Thursday night. Never been so looking forward to exploring a little on Friday and heading up to Jonesboro on Sat morning.

Cant really compare the basketball game. It was like 60% Iowa State fans, lol.

I like going to the urban stadiums for the reason that its just sooo different than Ames. Its nice to change it up from time to time.

Yes, something like Akron. Hope I win the stadium 50-50 raffle like I did at Akron! First time a road trip is ever paid for itself.

I hadn’t thought about the Memphis part on Friday until the Williams and Blum podcast, but now I’m thinking seriously about that too.

I’ve heard it called the “wettest dry county.” Apparently, they make lots of exceptions. And I thought Williams and Blum said they serve beer in the stadium. Seems like it might be wise for me to do a little more research before hauling cases of Ames Lager down there.

It is. When we were down there dry county just means you have to drive further for your beer run.

Dry counties cannot have bars or sell alcohol in stores.

  • Yes, but: Restaurants can serve alcoholic beverages with a permit.
  • Craighead and Faulkner counties, which are dry and have population centers like Jonesboro and Conway, have the most special permits in the state. You see a lot of "bar and grills."
