Would appreciate any road condition information later this afternoon. I will be traveling from Ankeny to Ames. I will probably not make a decision whether to go or not until 4-5 pm today. Viewing it as 50/50 right now. Thanks in advance.

Folks I'm speaking to at work who have come to Ames this morning from that distance are saying that it's not as bad as they thought. Hwy 30 is pretty much just wet, for example. Now, I would wait and see what the temp is tonight, but I don't think it's near as bad up here as people were expecting.

95% of my commute is on county highways and even they weren't horrible this morning. Unless things worsen by quite a bit, there really isn't a reason to not be there imo. Unless you are elderly or coming with the elderly as I could see something like the parking lot having some slick patches of ice.

I'm guessing the main roads will be ok. I'm in Ames and haven't been out yet but the apartment parking lot is slushy. It's 32.

I assume they'll have the Hilton parking lot ok.

Re freeze will be a problem.

Shouldn't have any problem at all from Ankeny. Any trip that involves a majority of interstate/main highway travel within an hour of Ames should be fine this afternoon/evening.

Ankeny will be fine unless something changes.

Safe travels to all this evening. I've driven to a lot of games in really bad conditions, now that I look back it seems really dumb, but at the time I just couldn't say no. It does sound like after the game may be the worst with refreezing, so don't be in too much of a hurry to get home, you'll be fine missing a few zzz's. :)

With all the rain we're going to get today, on top of the ice we got last night, refreeze will be a big concern after the game. Maybe not on the main roads, but driving on side streets and walking in parking lots will be tricky.

ive been on the interstate most of my morning and just got home. Re-freeze tonight would be my only concern.

I am not elderly, but definitely too old to end up in the ditch. I lived in Waterloo most of my life and made many harrowing trips to Hilton. I won't do that anymore. Leaning towards going, hate to miss beating KU.

As indicated, main roads were fine (commute from Ames to DSM). Side streets were the issue. It's supposed to rise about freezing, so that should improve things a lot. Refreeze will be the issue later tonight.
