People need to relax about the Jake. Guess what, all this construction is expensive which is why it is done in stages. Removing the Jake is in the plans, but it will be a while, one thing at a time.

The plans are for at some future point to build a new administration building across 4th street at the Iowa State Center. Two locations are being considered for this, between Hilton and Stephens (which is unlikely to happen) and near the Transit Hub. With recent flooding issues I wouldn't be surprised if they are considering now placing it beside the Alumni Hall.

This is likely the reason why the new video board is going to be stand alone. Either way, the football offices are the first step in this process. We may be looking at 2020 before all is said and done, but it will happen.
 
Let's start by just getting lights installed for the outdoor practice fields. Good god, that's embarrassing. Even FCS teams have practice field lights.
 
Something I threw out to some buddies the other day was:

Why in the hell was Jack Trice built this way in the first place? Wouldn't it have made more sense to just build a 1 level 42,000 seat horseshoe that would be expandable?

Something like Lousiville's stadium which started like this:

Was that donation of like $6,000,000 that was showcased during the bball game today the catalyst for this stuff happening?

I would be interesting to see when this was built and the original build cost vs. what it cost to build the original JT. I absolutely agree, this type of design would have made much more sense but are we comparing apples to apples in terms of the resources we had available.
 
They're going to have to do something to keep up with the other conference teams at some point. Capacity somewhere in the 55000-65000 range, of actual seats, not standing room hillside stuff. Then fill those seats by consistently winning home games. All doable...Go State!

JTS is a stadium/arena built in the early to mid 70's- not an era dedicated to enduring qualities. Stadiums of from that time are almost universally waiting to be replaced, or have been.

Louisville's was built in the late-90's.
 
one MAJOR design flaw in JTS was it was built out not up... if it were built up JTS would be much more louder because fans are closer. One thing like about going to Kinnick is there isn't really a bad seat there. I wish that could be changed. but obviously we would have to start new. which wouldn't be all bad either. but hey.. who wants to shed out 50 mil for a new stadium? Goshow?
 
I just don't see how building a stadium of that shape at the same capacity that JTS has would be any more expensive, and it would have looked so much better. Not to mention it wouldn't have been a freaking wind tunnel.

It's also cheaper to attend a game there. Both donation levels and ticket prices.

There's a fine line. I prefer Jack Trice comfort-wise over Kinnick/Notre Dame Stadium/pretty much all old stadiums because they were made 80 years ago when people were shorter/skinnier on average.

And really, I have my doubts it'd have a huge effect in Ames. There's too many other places for sound to escape for it to make a big deal. Arrowhead is comfortable in the lower deck than pitched steeper than **** in the upper deck, but it still gets ridiculously loud because there's nowhere in the stadium for the sound to escape except above.
 
I'm of the opinion that when/if they do add a second deck to the bowled in endzone, it should be as steep as possible. Not only will that provide better views, it will help keep the sound in a little better.
 
personally I would rather see one level that just goes up in the south endzone instead of a lower bowl and an upper deck. Make it steeper and go to the top of the upper deck we have now. This needs to happen we would sell more tickets because you have an actual seat instead of sitting on an incline people want seats!! The atmosphere would be just freakin awesome, got to keep up with the rest or die and get left behind.
 
something like Texas A&m's north endzone, obviously not that huge cause we only have one upper deck not two. Something like that would be awesome and plus it is steeep.

What should happen is tear out east side upper deck and add a 2 level luxury box thing from end zone to end zone. It gets too cold in late october/early november to be sitting in an upper deck.
 
put a roof over the upper decks and heat them ahhhh nice and toasty when it is freakin cold out. Build a stadium that only seats twenty five thousand that is totally enclosed Loud as hell and warm problem solved!!

Huh? It's cold as hell no matter where you are outside, hence the reason to dress intelligently.

That and people are just lining up for luxury boxes at football games! :nah:
