not to poo-poo you or anything but that is highly unlikely. Even if you are referring to the big 12 sans Texas and OU (which are both far ahead of ISU), Every team ranked below ISU has fewer recruits than ISU. Once their classes fill up, a few teams will almost certainly jump ISU. Looking at the average ratings of recruits will give you a better idea of where ISU will likely end up when all is said and done and class numbers level out.

You have to consider the late signers usually drag the average down some. It's our highest rated class and that's what's actually important.

With all the coaching shakeups I’ve changed my mind. I think we are an 8 or 9 win team next year and contending for the big 12 championship.

Very true. There are statements indicating Remsburg was hurt much of the year and if true, I think if he's healthy he's an upgrade at RT.

If memory serves - and I know it was not just him - the offense flowed better after he replaced Ramos in the starting lineup. Maybe Bonifas or someone else can challenge at the LT spot.

My seats were pretty close to the ISU bench this year and of all the redshirt FR Olinemen I think Bonifas clearly looks the most athletic. Supported by the fact he was a good basketball player in high school. So I hope he can be a possible replacement for Newell at center or play tackle. I think the biggest shortcoming we had this year on the OL was a lack of athleticism. You must have quick hands and be able to move your feet at tackle, especially when you face guys like Bonitto at DE.

I look for more use of running backs in the passing game. Brock is a good receiver. Eli Sanders looks to be another option to get the ball to in the passing game. A new qb in Dekkers and I think we have to look to get the ball to our backs in the passing game.

Agreed. Man I thought the most obvious flaw with Manning’s playcalling this year was not throwing to Hall enough out of the backfield. With everyone stacking the box starting with UNI I think Breece should have been targeted 5-10 times per game. Let him chip and then release to disguise the route. He’s an elite receiver who is so hard to tackle in space. Manning figured that out in the 2nd half of the Tech game and late in the OU game out of necessity but that should have been a staple of our offense all season.

I don’t think Amos was as good as Freyler or Craig MacDonald. I thought both of those guys played great and are going to be starters next year. Btw, what happened to Braxton Lewis, #33 who played well as a FR last year? I don’t remember seeing him at all this season so maybe he just couldn’t beat out those other guys.

We had two true freshman, and one RS Freshman play a lot of DB this year, so that probably had something to do with playing time.

IMO our roster is fine from a talent & experience perspective. There are a couple key position groups where guys need to emerge:

• QB. Dekkers appears to be the guy, but who knows. I do think we will see a different type of QB with more deep completions and Dekkers in the run game.
• WR. This might be the position group that has the most room to grow. It is hard to judge the young talent because we played so much 2 TE plus FB formations the last 3 years. We need some game breakers from the WR group.
• DE. We need to find a stud pass rusher among the young guys. I like Blake Peterson's motor in the snaps he got.
• K/P. Going to be tough to replace Mevis. He was All Big12 this last season. Plus he was solid as a punter.

That said, the bigger issue for me this off-season is evaluation of approach:

• Our 3-3-5 has been very successful. Are opposing coaches learning how to exploit it? In our 7 wins, the Cyclone defense gave up an average of 11.7 points. In our 5 losses, the defense gave up an average of 33 points. Why such a Jeckyl & Hyde defense? Opponent Speed or Strength, Opponent Offensive Philosophy? Home vs. Road?

I struggle with Heacock's tendency to only rush 3 guys. The best pass defense is a pass rush. Only bringing 3 pass rushers creates bigger windows for the QB to see downfield. With graduation of Rose, Hummel & Vance- does it make sense for ISU to move to a 4-2-5 defense? I believe Campbell ran a 4-2-5 at Toledo. If we stay with the 3-3-5 defense, I would love to see development of a 6'3"/240lb hybrid LB who is a stand-up DE and pass rusher on most pass plays. I love watching aggressive defenses like Okie State, Michigan and Wisconsin.​

• On offense our o-line needs to gel in September. Not sure why UNI and Louisiana gave our offense so many issues the last 3 years. IMO ISU should be run all over the Panthers. There is something wrong with how our O-line is being developed in fall camp.
• On offense more big plays. With Purdy, Hall, Allen & Kolar it made sense to leverage our talent to be a ball control offense. With guys like Noel, Jackson, Porter, Sanders, Townsend, etc.- I am hopeful to see us stretch defenses vertically.

Great point regarding Heacock's tendancies. Not having lockdown corners will force Heacock to adjust, but I think he is one of the best in the industry and he will adjust accordingly.

Isn't Purchase our best hope for a lockdown corner next year? Then if Tampa continues to progress we could be pretty solid. Safety seems pretty well off especially if Young returns.

Kids can play in 4 non-covid seasons. The year he didn't play was the covid season. He's played in 4, so he's done, unfortunately.

SO... It's one scouts opinion.. But if Will McDonald gets a 3rd round grade for 2022. Do we start having conversations of him returning?
