If these things ever got into the wild they wouldn't last long... All you need to know is their genetic superiors are only still around (at least anywhere even remotely populated) by the grace of preservation programs. Wolves were hunted to near extinction.
Coyotes survive because they aren't a (real) threat to humans or livestock.
True that! But one of these would scare me just from the sheer size of it, pop out from behind a tree it would scare the poop out of me.
The pretty white fur is gorgeous though look great as a reallllly expensive rug.

Seriously, how did they not name one of these Ghost. They named one Khaleesi so they are obviously aware of Game of Thrones. We're not Roman. Nobody cares about the story of Romulus and Remus.

I think they'll really be able to tell after one of these dies and they can do some forensics on the remains and see how closely it actually matches native Dire Wolf remains. At the end of the day there probably isn't a lot of difference between Dire Wolves and other native species of wolves, and if they were to try and introduce a population into the wild they would probably be bread out of existence anyways. It's really just a curiosity, but an interesting one. I'm not going to lie, I would love to see a Wooly Mammoth, even if it's just a genetically engineered approximation of one.
Until it is demanded by some that it is really sad to keep them penned up. Why recreate an Alpha predator? Of all things? Because it was the easiest to perform because of the condition of the DNA or maybe splashiest headlines? It just seems of all the things to recreate, a dire wolf would be at the bottom of my list.
They started with a wooly mouse. I think they did a Dire wolf simply because they were able to find DNA samples from a preserved hide and tooth.
I'm sure they will...........for a small fee. The company has a $10B market value. Unless they plan to sell mastodon burgers someday I'm guessing there will be a pay to view model.
BTW- Netflix has filming a documentary since the company started. Projected to film over 5 year span.
I'm guessing their work has implications in biotech well beyond genetically recreating extinct species. They are probably developing new tools and procedures that they can either spin off into other businesses or sell to others in the biotech field.
