Sinclair down at Missouri now on a recruiting visit. He was at the football game last night with O’Toole, Mocco, and high schooler Charlie Millard.

I hope we have a chance, but if Askern is involved, you would think Wisconsin and Mizz would be favorites. Are the Mirasola boys of Wisconsin training with Askern also? They are both 182 & 195 pounders also

I can tell you there will NOT be many Askren boys headed to Wisconsin if Ben has anything to say about it. He has major beef with Bono.

Askren will run as many guys to Mizzou as possible.

Didn’t know Askern split from Wisconsin with hard feelings. With Bono, it isn’t a complete surprise. I am surprised the Reader hasn’t had some head coaching opportunities. Maybe it is money

This goes way back, before any Wisconsin/Bono thing. It is about recruiting involving Paulsens and Bono, but Askren getting no love. This is back when Askren was still in high school.

Why didn't Messenbrink go to Mizzou? On one of the FRL episodes Ben has stated that he doesn't push his kids to go to a certain school, but if his kids ask for advice on coaching staffs he'll give his honest opinion about a staff and program, but I don't think he pushes his kids to go to Mizzou

Yes they train there. They can’t all go to Miz!

Yeah I remember him saying he doesn’t push them but he’s there to give information and advices when asked. He said he likes some coaches and the way they do things.

I would imagine it had more to do with Messenbrink being a bit of a late arrival on the national scene. His rise in the last year has been meteoric in the rankings. He was good before. Now he could pick any school he wanted, but kudos to him to sticking with his original commitment

Askren also talked about this too. He said their philosophy is to have these kids peak later in their career but coaches just aren’t following. They don’t want them competing early and that can mean they are late bloomers. He said he had some really good kids peak late in high school and the only coaches that recruited them were D2 or D3. They ended up being ranked late but had already committed to go D2/3 when they could’ve gone D1 and had a good chance to compete well. He talked about coaches not giving these kids enough time to develop and by the time they do the good teams already have money tied up at the weights.

Agreed. With the transfer portal, this shouldn’t be much of an issue anymore. Kids can transfer after 1 year.

Also, I 100% think that Askren’s philosophy is correct. Anyone see what the Schwab kid is doing? 8th grade redshirt so he can be better as a freshman? Who cares about what you do as a freshman?

Redshirting for wrestling in HS has been happening for a while now and more common than several think.
