I should have included I'm not trying to make MA out as a villain or imply he made the wrong decision. He made the right choice for him.
I've always hated this term, but there's no "butt hurt" here. You asked what people here would do and I answered with what I would do. I wasn't trying to say what MA should have done.

Fair enough. The butt hurt comment (mislabeled or not) wasn't directed only to you, that's for sure. Most are mad he left because it makes things difficult for ISU. Well, I'm guessing TJ leaving Washington didn't make life easy for them either. But that's OK because it helps us.

How many people here, if they were assistants at School 'B' 1,000 miles from Ames, would pass up an opportunity to be an assistant at ISU with an all time school great? Say Fred Hoiberg or Jeff Hornacek?

I'll hang up and listen.
Some people would to help out their mentor. Some would.

Sure we also assume Matt could not possibly feel the same way about St. John's like we and or Fred feel about ISU and that probably isn't fair. But if I were at St Johns and the exact situations were reversed, I about said no way would I come back but crap I probably would. Fair point.

But I also wouldn't blame St. John's fans for being ****** that I bailed on the brink of fulfilling the dream I had been selling the last 4+ years and in doing so possibly shattered it. I would feel really conflicted as I am sure Matt does. But you don't know when these opportunities are going to happen. Friends, family and home matter. It is what it is. Iowa State will still be a great basketball program regardless and Fred will get it done. And maybe this was forn the better in the long haul sometimes good things seem bad in real time.

I don't hear Fred complaining. Heck he had a replacement hired in 24 hours.

Matt had a professional opportunity he couldn't pass up. Being an assistant basketball coach is a nomadic existance and it is professionally smart to expose oneself to a number of great head coaches.

To top it off, Matt got to take the next step in his life journey at his alma mater and in his hometown. Why would anyone pass on their DREAM job???

It seems to me the people complaining are small minded fans, who only see the world through what is best for them as a fan.

You cannot convince me that MA leaving was best for Fred pre surgery. It made Fred jump through hoops. One year $230k contract for Otz is very telling. Small minded thinking was MA scooting his butt to SJU.
