You do realize that those three teams you listed (UK, KU and Duke) have a combined eight regular season conference titles, five Final Four appearances, four title game apperances and two national titles in the past five years, right? Maybe your definition of "feasting on that so far" needs to be adjusted. I thought the whole point of this sport was conference titles, Final Fours and national titles? One Big 12 tourney title and a few sweet sixteens doesn't mean that ISU is better off without elite recruits. It means they are in prime position to build on their current success to attract elite recruits to get to the next level of success. I get that consistent 20+ wins, top 3 finishes in the conference and sweet sixteens "can be hard to adjust to" but it's not the top of the mountain and certainly not where Hoiberg wants the program to level off at.

I agree, frankly. The transfer market is great but supplementation with the best HS kids we can get is essential to next level performance. One Sweet 16 is nice but that was last year. The goals are far greater than that and it's no secret. Fred is telling recruits that he wants a National Title because that's an attainable goal...if said recruits are on board.
Add Diallo to next year's likely ISU team and they are a legit Final Four pick and solid top five team that will be a matchup nightmare for just about any type of team they would have to face. Oof.

Mad? Dude, it's the conference tourney. One rung above an exhibition game in my book. I get that you're not sweating any individual recruit because overall, Hoiball is rising to heights not seen in more than a decade. But this is not where Hoiberg wants ISU basketball to peak and adding better talent in the recruiting pool to what they are already able to cull from the transfer market is what will most likely get ISU to where they want to go. If you think that ISU will rise to the consistent year over year performance of the teams you mentioned without beginning to consistently landa few Top 30 recruits then you might be disappointed.
Really? I know a regular season title is way more important but cmon, winning a conference tournament title is kind of a big deal
How many conference titles has KU won in a row? I could not tell you. It is not even an exhibition.
All that really matters is the NCAA tournament, but it is understandable why twocoach assigns so much value to conference standings.

The full breakdown of my rungs would be 1) beating them in an ncaa title game 2) beating them in the Final Four 3) beating them in the Elite Eight to get to the Final Four 4) beating them in a pre-Elite Eight round of the ncaa tourney 5) beating them in a regular season game in Lawrence 6) beating them in a regular season game at home 7) beating them in the conference tourney finals game 8) beating them in a conference tourney game prior to the finals 9) beating them in an exhibition game.
You're right, which is why I pointed out that the KU, UK, Duke model of relying more on Top 30 recruits rather than transfers seems to have worked out pretty well in the NCAA tourney over the 5 year period we were referring to. That's all.
I think I would rather beat them at Hilton. KU is the only reason we don't have the longest current win streak at home. I'd take a win over Kansas at any venue but it's just a little sweeter in Ames.

I've been going to the Big 12's in KC for 6 years now, there wasn't a much better feeling than the P&L Friday night after the Kansas game last year
Which I wasn't claiming as inaccurate at all. I was merely pointing out that those schools have somewhat of a monopoly on those top 25 recruits. I wasn't saying they were doing anything wrong and it wasn't any kind of commentary on their results. You kind of jack azzed out with your reply to me so I was assuming it was the little dig about us beating you the last time that we played you that caused you to jack azz out because there wasn't anything incendiary in my post other than that comment.
Look, we all have a different perspective on the sport, tinted by our own experience and the team we cheer for. I have covered this ground several times on here. My PERSONAL feelings on the conference tourney are shaped by the fact that Kansas has never in my lifetime needed a conference tourney win to get selected into the tourney field. Frankly, I think it just wears the guys out more than anything and exists primarily as a conference money grab. However, I understand why other people value it more than I do. I have made no attempt to say that anyone that values it MORE than I do is wrong so why are you trying to tell me that my opinion "is ********?" You think it's more important than I do. No problem. That's what it is to you.
