Recruit Lists v2.0

I'd be shocked if a HS kid made a decision to attend ISU for four years of his career based on the fact Ejim gets drafted 59th overall.

Maybe not, but it allows him to say that he can get kids drafted who are not transfers. Which so far he cannot say. It's one more thing that other coaches can't use against Fred... if there is any dirty recruiting out there.

Very Good Not Great

I have no problem with filling position needs with transfers and JUCO's. However, I hope the staff will always make HS or Prep school kids the core of our team- about 2/3s of our roster.

With those kids its a delicate balance of identifying guys early and developing strong relationships the summer after their sophomore year. To some degree we then need to hope they don't blow up the summer after their junior year & the likes of KU/Duke /Kentucky/etc put on the full court press.

I think our best bet for success are getting HS kids who will be around for 2-3 years at a minimum and avoid the 1 & dones. IMO those kids are more focused on the NBA than their college season. Of all the college coaches, only Coach Calipari has been able:to pull it off and he has the advantage of Kentucky's abilitity to sign 3-4 McD AA every year.

I agree. I like having the Montees and the Thomas and the Niangs as the core of the team, with a Kane to help ignite a spark and give some experience from elsewhere. I wouldn't mind having one or two 1 and dones though. That level of talent to complement the core team would be welcome in my book. I have faith in Fred to be able to control their egos.

It would be naïve to think schools aren't negatively recruiting against Fred for HS players with all the transfers we sign.

However they may just be thinning the heard for us and hopefully limit our prep signees to kids that believe they are one and done or players that feel strong enough about their ability to step in and contribute from day one.

From what I've seen Ellenson and Ahmad have genuine interest in ISU and the pro-style system we employ. They've seen how they would be used and the spots Fred would use them from. (Thanks Georges!)

That's still a mile from the finish line with top-notch competition so getting visits is the next step.

We're in the game.

A HS recruit isn't going to be afraid to come to Iowa State because of transfers, and then elect to go to a blue blood because it's easier to get on the floor.

We are going after top recruits, and they won't be afraid of playing time anywhere. They think they are the best and can beat anyone.

..but they may make a team within a year.

Of course they could. I think Deandre could be a very good reserve PG in the league. Still up in the air. They both could get drafted but the likelihood they both make contributions in the league this next year isn't likely.

Eh, I get your point but Royce is already ancient history, Georges is here and now (and even more versatile, I might add).

Eh, they're both great, but totally different players. Royce will always be a favorite of mine for what he did for our team, and his style of play. Georges, too, but he's still got a lot of space to separate himself with a couple natty's.

It's all about not putting a skilled big man into some on-the-block box.

That's what has Ellenson's interest.
