Really stupid taunting call.

Well he what francon 1 after it. Dave andrews pulled him away.
Absolutely he was livid a few plays later when he saw the replay (any normal human being would be), but he maintained his composure immediately after the awful call was made and got his team focused on getting the score back. I don't think many coaches would have handled it as well.

Probably couldn't see it on TV. But after Campbell went berserk, he was staring down the ref that called it for the next couple plays. It was hilarious

Does holding the ball out and up 5 yards before reaching the goal line count as unsportsmanlike conduct/taunting? Asking for a friend named Xavier..... (first highlight in the vid below)

Those defending the ref..... watch other games, you will see much worse than what X did and it is not penalized 99.5% of the time.

Heck, just watch yesterday, I think it was Oklahoma's last TD. Their QB ran about 50 yards for a TD. The last 10 yards he was holding his arm straight up over his head, waving his arm with the ball in his hands and looking around. No flag. I don't think the ref even came over to him in the end zone to tell him to calm down, which you do see a lot. He "celebrated" or "taunted" or anything you want to call it, much more than what X did.

As some have noted, this had to be a ref that was just hell-bent on making a call against ISU, we will never know why.

Not when...........

"The magic man........................pulls out the magic wand"!

"OHHHHHH....he's a runna, he's a track star....look at him going out there going...breaking tackles"!

Just waiting for the commentators to say they want their wife's to have his babies.

So just tell your friend Xavier until he is a runna and a track star, breaking tackles with his magic wand........just forget it.

I said when the call was made, if it was Alabama, OU, Texas or any other blue blood program, that isn’t called 100 out of 100 times. Since it was ISU, perfect time to flex your stripes.

No one is defending the ref.

Not exaggerating, I think you’d need to call about 1000 to 1500 taunting penalties a game for that not to be an atrocious call.

There are possibly as many as 15-30 acts like that per play on players from both teams. I don’t even think X was taunting, rather there are 15-30 cases of actual shoving, pushing, yapping, etc…

The cleanest least-taunting plays would probably get ten taunting flags. The worst might get 60 flags. Most defensive backs would average over one taunting penalty per snap because 100% of them taunt worse on every snap.

I Know, I live under a rock! Who is John Walters?
Put the Varsity app on your phone and listen to an ISU game call some time. He's the best in the business!
He is the play-by-play guy for ISU football and BB, has been since prior beloved play-by-play guy Pete Taylor died suddenly of a stroke in 2003. John Walters is great, one of the best! And that's saying a lot because we all loved Taylor!

His color guy is Eric Heft, a former ISU BB player/guard way back when. He's also good and compliments Walters well.

Here's a clip of Walters making a BB call a few years back..

Edit: And see post #157

ISU needs to put that TD in his highlight tape along with the other two. No one drafting him will even know about the flag if edited the right way.
Yes he got a two for one on that drive! And some good pub. That and the game changing momentum. Otherwise I'm still peeved.

What’s low key awesome and maybe it’s already been discussed is that ref got clocked or tripped or something and lost his hat not long after this and was super pissed about it. Happened right In front of us.
Didn't know it was the same ref, but saw that happen. Our guy (think it was Will McDonald was looking back at the sidelines as he was running on the field during a change of possessions and just mowed a ref over.
Wow. That sounds like an intentional 'hit by pitch' like in baseball payback! If true.

To me, the most impressive part of that horrible call was Campbell's initial reaction.

Most coaches, including previous ISU coaches, would have had an absolute melt down on the sidelines and it would be hard to blame them. Instead, Campbell calmly told Hutchinson who was trotting off the field to get back on the field, and then he screamed encouragement at his players to get the touchdown back. That's leading by example and showing your players how best to overcome adversity.

We're so lucky to have Campbell leading our program that I have to keep pinching myself.

You apparently missed the part where after he saw the replay yelled, "who f****** called that?!" and started storming down the sideline and a couple of coaches had to pull him back.
I love Campbell, and he did do exactly what you say he did as far as giving encouragement to our guys, but he was ******* livid even after we scored and kicked the PAT. He was yelling demanding to speak to the field judge after the extra point.

I like both of Campbell's reactions! Both signs of a great coach and one who cares.

Opening TD by Texas is very similar. He does a little skip/jump just before scoring.
