The Title IX implications are going to be interesting. I guess the House settlement established a formula for athlete back pay that is roughly 90% for football and men’s basketball and then 10% for women. From what I’ve read, the initial plan at most schools is to use that same formula for future spending on athletes as well.UNIs AD believes that only FB, MBB, WBB, VB, SB, BSB stay as true varsity sports. Everything else becomes some level of club ball with a small budget and no scholarships.
Hockey and wrestling have a shot as well at the limited schools that play those sports.
But I can just imagine the outrage and lawsuits that will eventually come from that. The WNBA is about to have lockouts demanding more pay even though the league loses $40m per year so I’m pretty sure female athletes aren’t going to be good with 10% and only a handful of sports at the varsity level while football has over 100 scholarships and millions of dollars in spending.
