GT and Cuse will never be in the B12. I dont get your hard on for them.
GT and Cuse are among the worst ACC teams. They have no fans. that chart is wrong. no way cuse or gt have more eyeballs than VT.

there is a reason bowls love VT, and hate GT and Cuse. GT is in Atlanta, but no one in Atlanta follows GT.

VT and NC State are huge markets in huge states. Plus DC if we get VT.

2022 must be an outlier if bc cuse and gt are not at the bottom with Duke and WF>

Pitt is a must have with WVU in the conference.

Backyard Brawl Set Records for TV Ratings

A lot of folks tuned in for West Virginia's season opener.

Fans all over the country were excited to watch the first Backyard Brawl between Pitt and West Virginia since 2011.
According to ESPN PR, the game attracted 3.15 million viewers, making it the most-watched ESPN Thursday game in five years. ESPN's College GameDay was also on-site for the game and saw a jump in viewership of 30% from the last opening Thursday show with 900,000 viewers.

For comparison, Iowa is $50-$100M in revenue apart from their elite peers in the Big 10 and are no longer able to hide in the Big 10 West... Versus ISU who will have an easier path to the playoff, is on equal footing to their peers, and has a basketball program HEAD AND SHOULDERS in a better position..

Are we in a better position than Iowa??

Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St, USC, Oregon are all above Iowa (Assuming for USC). The peers below but close to them are Wisconsin, Washington, and Illinois. Wisconsin has been a LARGE step better than Iowa for awhile. Washington is located in a MAJOR MSA and has double the endowment. That puts Iowa at 8/16 in my pecking order with a 70 year old football coach and a 65 year old basketball coach that no one likes...
This means their next AD will be a real make-or-break hire. I was hoping Goetz would get it since she had done a great job out here at Ball U. but the next AD is gonna have a bunch of big decisions to make to keep their football and basketball relevant.

I also think Oklahoma has a good chance to be a loser in realignment, and I believe it was a good move by Lincoln Riley to take the payday and get out of Norman.

Brent Venables was a good assistant, but I have a feeling he could be Oklahoma's Frank Solich.

Historically, Oklahoma was good due to proximity to Texas in the Big 8. They are slowly undoing the foundation that made them great, and I don't think they have a lot of strategic advantages in the SEC.
I really think they are going to regret this move, Texas will as well but they don’t have anything to lose.

Oklahoma is going to go from basically the Top Dog of the past 10 years to at best the 5th best program in their conference. Texas has all the resources and advantages in the world - so they're either going to sink or swim. Considering how many times they've drowned over the past 15 years, I wouldn't bet on them either way.

Did Cuse and/or GT play Notre Dame last year? That would greatly skew the viewership numbers. Especially if they got some other games stashed on ESPN+, which doesn’t report ratings

Edit: Cuse did which certainly helped their ratings. Georgia Tech didn’t but their schedule was full of ratings getters (Georgia, Clemson, Ole Miss, Pitt) which inflated viewership

This. But we have already learned Texas is the best team in the country to do less with more. I am all for the show of OU and UT being mediocre in the SEC. Enjoy that SEC money though.

I love the parity of the new Big 12 just as much as anyone else, it's going to be a fun league to play in. But ISU needs resources to continue to grow and we have the stingiest fan base in the league. We need to compete in-state with a Big 10 school who will have more money to spend on football and the other sports than they will know what to do with under the terms of their new media deal. And ISU will need to continue to compete well against them for the forseeable future. I just don't know how to do that without starving other programs.

Yeah, I don't get the love for Georgia Tech. Academically, sure. But they don't move the needle in fan support. I see hundreds of Georgia fans when I'm in Florida for six months. I don't think I've EVER seen a GT fan/tee shirt in 12 years down there. Seen more hok and even ISU than GT. I'd take them before Wake, but about a toss-up with Duke.

The 'Cuse I could accept as a 4th option if 3 of: Miami, VT, NCST, Pitt are added. But probably would prefer Louisville over Syracuse as a 4th from the ACC.

A girl I used to work with went to Georgia tech. She said about the dating scene…”the goods are odd, but the odds are good”

If you look at viewership as a reflection of popularity, I would first go after Syracuse and Georgia Tech as the best teams available under your analysis; followed by Miami to pair with Central Florida; then pickem from Pitt and Louisville, whichever West Virginia wants. Duke is a basketball school with nominal football TV following. I would not go over 20 teams, as even that is too big to manage.

The next size up for divisions is 24 with four six team divisions. Then the barn door is open and take Cal, Stanford, Duke and everyone else......Uff Da.

How far are we from:
Isolate the University football programs and become a semi-pro league with Las Vegas operations funding, pay NIL players and buy the best available, and have Vegas establish a 24 hour sports TV network to show all games. (Ha Ha Ha or not?)
Would be interesting to see the source and background for this data. Sports media watch posts every game that reports, and they never show ACCN or CBSSN or PACN games. So if someone just ignored those in the average then most of their worst games are excluded. Now they are getting an average viewership with their best few games that include Clemson and Notre Dame.

As comparison ISU only had three games that wouldn’t be reported - SEMO, Ohio and WVU. The other less interesting games end up on the lower end FS and ESPN channels. You can’t look at average viewers. It’s completely irrelevant if they are simply throwing out ACCN games from the average. Their ratings are completely built on the Clemson and ND games, of which Syracuse had nothing to do with ratings.

They should have learned from the example of Nebraska's crash in the B1G. If you don't win you don't get trophies and you lose your fans. So, love your bags of money and sip Jack Daniels because that is all you will have in ten years.

Nebraska currently has the longest bowl drought among Power 5 teams. Texas has a ways to go to drop to that level.
