The campus is beautiful. When I go to games I never stay in South Bend, it's very expensive. I stay in Chicago and drive to and from the game. If you go, get to campus early and explore, I love the Ames campus but ND is on another level.

We stay in smaller towns along the lake in SW Michigan. About a 35-40 min drive to South Bend.

When haven't they been?

The ACC got on all fours and welcomed their overloards.

They will end up paying a big price trying to entice a school that's won fewer NY6 bowl games than ISU this century

ND would've been a perfect PAC school
More like grabbing their ankles and waiting for the surprise!

NC State is super underrated in ACC expansion talk. They have traditionally had good attendance and a fanbase that is dedicated.

As the media value shifts to proactive viewership, NC State will be a more attractive for expansion than people think.
Im an alum of there for my MS degree. I totally agree. The games/stadium/tailgating have an SEC vibe for sure. Fans are rabid, loud, and rowdy. Definitely felt like the ISU fanbase, just more of them, and with a drawl lol.

Is there really more of them? The stadium is smaller.

NC State is a lot like ISU except they’re the third brother in the triangle to Chapel Hill and Duke. Their fans are good people but way outnumbered. For realignment purposes, The Pack is fortunate to be in a more populated area and located in the SE.

Fans that will actually proactively seek out and pay for football content? Im not so sure. They have more than double the attendance of Duke and almost 20% more than UNC. And it isn’t because Duke and UNC are selling out small stadiums.

The way future media deals are set up, including level of streaming and how basketball and football are packaged or segregated, will impact these schools relative value.

Feels like it. North Carolina is the 10th most populated state. The stadium isn't that much smaller, and it definitely feels like you see a lot of NC State gear around the major metros of the state. Even if they only have a portion of Raleigh and Charlotte, that's almost assuredly more fans than ISU.

I also think that in terms of football, they have the most passionate fanbase in the state for sure. Duke and UNC fans do not care about that sport in my experience. If it comes to streaming participation, I'd almost guarantee NCSU would get more football season subscribers than either Duke or UNC.

That’s potentially true with college football. I lived in Charlotte after college and the Tar Heel to Pack ratio was at least 5 or 6/1. BUT basketball was the top sport for college by far. I would say the sheer number of Tar Heel fans make that the more desirable program (even if their is a lack of passion for football).

I’d say NFL dominated the football landscape in Charlotte due to the Panthers and number of NE transplants, as well as the lack of passion for football with Tar Heels. Duke fans only slightly outnumbered Wolfpack fans locally (in my experience) but has a much greater national following due to the basketball program. BUT Duke has 0 football presence. Their football stadium was the worst college football stadium I’ve ever been to.

I was watching Finebaum last week and there was talk about future SEC expansion and the overriding opinion from PF and callers was that NC State would be a much better fit with the SEC than UNC. The SEC currently has no presence in North Carolina. Maybe NC State sees itself as having a better than good chance at an SEC invite once the ACC poaching begins.
Move said the same before, that NC state is a dark horse SEC bound for the reasons given, UNC big 10.

While football has written the ticket for conference moves up to now, Basketball also makes money to the conference.

As the ACC has a limited number of national recognized football schools, and the SEC will take the best, the Big 12's takeaway will need to be from the best of the basketball schools. ( NCSt, NC, Duke, Louisville, Syracuse, etc.) There should be at least 2-3 basketball schools available to us. Some have indicated here that the two NC schools will need to be a package and go either to us or B1G.

It would also be nice to pick up one or two football schools in or near Florida (to pair with CF).

Go Clones
Go Chiefs

I would bet ND could come up with the money fairly quickly if they wanted to leave.
As the number of conferences shrink, and the size of conferences grows along with the number of required conference games, pretty soon there will be fewer non-conference game slots for ND. If the ACC were to go away, ND may be forced to join a conference or spend their time playing the minor left behind schools with cross country travel costs.

My prediction when the ACC blows up:

FSU, Clemson, NC State, Va Tech to the SEC
UNC, UVA, Miami to the B1G

#4 B1G spot goes to ND if they want it, otherwise I could see Stanford or Duke.
The B1G is already 18. I don't see them going to 21, so how about UNC and UVa to the B1G.

The Big 12 would take Miami to pair with Central Florida. For Basketball. the Big 12 could take Duke, Louisville, and Syracuse.

Leaving the SEC with their top regional picks: FSU, Clemson, Georgia Tech., and NC State. But, if the SEC wants Miami, we could take NC State.

As a result of this proposed re-alignment, the Big 12 would be at the bottom of the super conferences in football, but the best of the pack in basketball.

Have been listening to the Monty Show during this realignment madness. I actually really trust the guy as his sources have been spot on and he always reports most things before the national media gets ahold of it. He has said multiple times his sources say the top remaining B10 targets are obviously ND first, but the second is absolutely NC. If ND doesn't come, it's up in the air but FSU is not a top target.

I am not a fan of this realignment stuff, but it's inevitable and at this point and I am happy the Pac 12 imploded and hope the ACC implodes in the next few years. If ISU ended up in a Power 3 conference, that would be unbelievable. It's already amazing they are in the new Power 4 considering the events of the past 13 years.

Wouldn't it be fun if we were in charge. The ACC is on borrowed time, it is just a question of how long. 1-2-3 years or 10 years. I trust Commissioner Yormark to put us in position to benefit whenever it is. We need to add schools near West Virginia and Central Florida to cement their ties to the Big 12.

We need to copyright the name BIG XX before someone else like Elon Musk takes it.

I agree that the Big 10 will stop at 20. I don't think Virginia is a shoe-in for the Big 10. It is between Miami and Virginia with a slight edge to Virginia.

SEC: FSU, Clemson, Virginia Tech, NC State.

Big 12: Miami, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Duke.

Miami will have to be dragged across the finish line like ASU but they will eventually.

I think one interesting theory is the Power Conferences must have more than 50% of the FBS in order to control the football playoff scheme after 2026. As of 2024, there will be 134 FBS teams. To maintain control, the Power Conferences would need 68 teams.

This assumes no additional FCS schools are promoted to FBS. Supposedly there are at least five plains state schools at different levels of interest in FBS: North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Missouri State, Montana, and Montana State. New FBS teams may increase the number of teams needed in the Power Conferences to retain control of the playoffs.
