Correct. He at least wanted Iowa State to be the best Land Grant University in the Country in anything Iowa State did - including athletics. He (Martin Jischke) was definitely not anti-sports. He was the President (1991-2000) when Gene Smith, Tim Floyd and Dan McCarney were all hired - which were all solid hires that helped propel ISU forward athletically out of the malaise.
Marty needed to keep a better eye on what Gene Smith was up to. The ISU AD "fire sale" of the early-mid 2000 wasn't pleasant.

This seems to be a weird opinion on realignment from the Mizzou football coach. It's okay that Missouri left the Big12 for the SEC but not okay when other schools do the same thing.

Did he seriously say that the #1 cause of mental health problems is lack of rest/sleep?

Yeah, I'll go ahead and just ignore anything and everything else that guy has to say from here on out. Talk about a 'duh' moment.

I imagine the Pac’s attempt will be to add enough Mtn West schools to dissolve that conference and pay no exit fees. I have seen that would require 9 votes, though I’m not sure.

Drop the 3 least valuable schools from the Mtn West (or 2 plus Hawaii), then add the four best AAC options on top - SMU, Memphis, Tulane, one more. You just locked yourself into the #5 conference slot, with #4 upside if the ACC dies.

And then negotiate for media still? Why would these teams leave for an unknown amount of money? The only thing that really make sense for any remaining teams is a "merge" with the MWC so they can have a set dollar amount from that media deal and bring the Pac 12 name with them.

This is a heart wrenching listen. Especially if you imagine it being CW speaking to us two years ago.

I'm sympathetic (i'd prefer the Big 8 were still a thing) but:

"The era ended June 27, 1984, when the U.S. Supreme Court, affirming lower-court decisions in an antitrust lawsuit filed almost three years earlier by the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents and the University of Georgia Athletic Board, effectively stripped the NCAA of authority over football TV contracts. The ruling allowed each school or conference to cut its own deal."

It's a different world now, of course, but I will blame the Sooners and the Bulldogs for this forever.

I think this is most likely. The leverage is with the Mtn West. It will depend on how each side plays its hand.

But put yourself in the shoes of a Boise State or Colorado State. Would you rather have a 16-team full merger? Or would you want to drop the deadest weight like Hawaii and San Jose State, add the Pac-4, and then have room to scoop up SMU and Memphis as well?

The interests of the Pac-4 and the 9 top Mtn West options might be aligned here.

Texas is far more valuable than FSU, and getting out a year early was challenging for UT. There isn’t an ACC brand worth what UT is worth. ACC teams paying a huge buyout fee, media dollar payout all to get into a league probably at a reduced share isn’t happening anytime soon.
Not sure the Texas v FSU comparison is equal.

Texas (& OU) didn't have much of a reason to test the GOR. There were 3 years left on their Big12 GOR: 2022/23 to 2024/25. The SEC's lucrative new deal with ESPN doesn't start until 2024/25. So if OuT jumped before next year, the old CBS deal would still be in place. I doubt existing SEC schools would be interested in less money for 2 years.

Conversely, FSU has 13 years left on its ACC GOR. Sure the buyout might be crazy money, but the opportunity cost is much bigger.

I don't think the Mountain West is going to have the votes to dissolve so it's going to get weird.

I'm guessing Hawaii doesn't get a vote and you'd have to figure Wyoming, San Jose and New Mexico are pretty strongly against because they would just be signing their own death warrant for the next time TV contacts come up.
