I do not really understand a desire to keep them together. They can still play each other out of conference in all sports. Being in two different conferences seems similar to diversifying for security purposes.

Okie State and Ou split.

This has been said so many times just in the last few days. We can't have 13 members. the 9-game schedule for football doesn't work.

Is 10 games impossible? B12 was the first conference to start playing 9. It’s part of the reason our league has very often had top SOS ranking past 20 years.

Maybe Fox has figured out it is cheaper to pay each PAC school $5-8 million for some small linear piece than add all the schools to Big 10 &12?
Honestly, perhaps.

It never quite made sense to me how the networks didn't make a good offer to the PAC, but were willing to pay for almost every team to leave.

The year TCU got screwed they had a better sos heading into playoff/bowls than Ohio St but the big 10 committee and media still used schedule strength lies against them.

A big 12 auto bid nullifies that worst case scenario where reality gets thrown out the window so b10 committee gets its fav team in every season.
Yeah, that Ohio State loss to Va Tech that year was far worse than TCU’s loss to Baylor, but it didn’t matter to the big-brained chuckleheads who selected the playoff field, cause “Ohio State!”

If I were a member of the AZ BOR I’d see this as an opportunity to diversify risk. Seems silly to not take that opportunity to diversify into a more stable investment without having to sell at the current low price. Free opportunities like this don’t come around very often.
Someone posted a few days ago that their BOR is made up mostly of Arizona State alums. Figures.

The Big 12 is going to get laughed at because they failed to bring in Zona.

No nutcup needed. Strong third. No one’s leaving. PAC will not last with everyone looking elsewhere.
Absolutely is embarrassing for the Big12. For a second we were on the verge of having gained some respect. Striking out on AZ is not a good look.

We will be back to being sh** on literally instantly.

No. Rework the schedule. Taking ****** Uconn because 'the schedule doesn't work' is as dumb as it gets.
The big 12 has already said they're going to 14, so I don't know why you're going to die on this hill lol

Take UCLA as an example, they had to circle back and get the California system governing body's permission prior to it becoming official which resulted in the negotiation that got Cal the ongoing payment from UCLA. You're right many times it is all but done prior to the board formality, but that vote happens at one point or another. In this case Arizona was very open and upfront with the Arizona Board of Regents unlike UCLA, Oklahoma, etc.
Also, per my understanding, is UCLA was bleeding debt. The state would've been downright stupid to finance that debt themselves instead of the media doing it for them. Not to mention the additional revenue generated from better national exposure.
AZ is a different situation, mainly driven by egos from what I can determine.

It just seems like UA is too far along the process to back out.

ASU and UU were always tougher sells so I’m not overly surprised if they decide to stay

I think UU has even deluded themselves into thinking they can football win their way into big ten.
