Hearing AZ totally in just as they always have been...but ASU has done a 180 and now AZ doing everything possible to get ASU in along with them. Not hearing anything about Utah. I think ASU might have had a "WTF are we doing lining up with Utah" moment of clarity at some point. Of course that in turn could cause Utah to have a moment of clarity.

It would be mildly amusing if AZ\ASU came and instead of Utah for the 16th slot we went with UConn

BIG announcement today is the BIG's attempt to scare the President of Arizona from going to the Big 12, so the PAC can be saved to last another 5 years.

Make him take the heat!
I agree with this. Its a move to slow things down. (To the benefit for the B1G)

If B1G leaks would take WAOR, WOAR to B1G and PAC X ends.

If B1G leaks would not take WAOR, WOAR to Big 12 and PAC X ends.

If B1G leaks evaluating WAOR in long term WAOR, WOAR. fights for status quo. (IMO)

Doesn't this just push AZ\ASU\Utah out the door faster though? If Big 10 is leaking that UO\UW are serious possibilities, the viability of the pac 12 is nil for the corners schools.

I dont think so. WAOR says "We're staying for now" Let's say 5 years. AZ, ASU, UU say, "Ok. We can hang on for another 5 years."

Or could be a signal to WAOR, if you go to the Big 12, dont sign a long term agreement.

A 24 team Big 10 and say 24 team SEC will be bad for the rest, including us as the 3rd conference. We'll start getting edged out. Then, the Big 10 and SEC may implode from within, may take awhile, but they then could combine for one conference, dropping the likes of Iowa, Northwestern, Minnesota, Miss State.

So was Oppenheimer really working on a conference realignment mega-bomb the whole time and just used the atomic bomb as a smokescreen?

Our next Freemason meeting needs to be moved up now, we're losing control of world order.
You're too late. Live look-in at my super secret society meeting to regain control of the new world order.

I’m split on Utah. Having them as the villain of the conference and the Holy War in the big 12 would be really fun. On the other hand, can’t stand them and their fan base

All that does is put an expiration date on things though. And those 3 can't guarantee that the big 12 will still have those openings in 5 years, especially in light of all the noise out of the ACC (however unlikely breaking the GOR actually is today, the closer we get to its end, the more likely an exit happens). Hell, the next big 12 contract may not have the same pro rata options.

The ACC uncertinty probably just threw a big wrench into Washington and Oregon to the Big 10. Those 2 spots could easily be used for ACC refugees and ND.

My guess is the Big10's goal is to be 24 schools. That means 3 or 4 more Pac12 schools, 3 or 4 ACC schools and Notre Dame. If FSU is looking to announce they are leaving ACC by August 15, they would probably do so know what conference they are heading to. So Big10 would have a better idea where they sit getting ACC schools. If FSU finds a way, I have to believe the other top ACC schools will find a way out as well.

Whereas if the SEC is content on being a regional conference, they might be OK at 18 or 20 teams.

And in the end I think the Big12 ends up at 24 teams, but it might be in stages: 16, 20, 24.
