The acc schools are going to be a bit humbled, especially the "football" schools. None fit the big ten and the sec already dominates those areas geographically. They aren't the slam dunk most think, they'll play the Oregon and Washington Tweener roles in the next wave.

Maybe i'm misinterpreting what you're saying but I think UNC, UVA, Miami, and FSU would all be schools the big ten wants. They're all good schools academically and athletically and in states the Big Ten isn't already in. The rest of the schools probably wouldn't get an invite. But that's probably the case with most conferences aside from a small handful.

Seems taking those teams from the ACC would be a heavy cost to Fox as ESPN would be damaged too

Doesn't the grant of rights mean that the ACC would own the media rights to those teams, even if they are in a different conference?

That is why the school would buy out the GOR contract. They need to get their rights back. Home team covers the GOR.

If I were the ACC, I wouldn’t start the negotiation until you get a notice to break the contract from the schools. Why let them know the dollar amount ahead of time? There’s no reason you have to negotiate hypotheticals.

I don’t think this is information that couldn’t be obtained through legal means. The ACC can’t just be like “we’ll never telllllll”.

I agree on unc, uva but I don't think Miami and fsu are as diserable as they believe. Same for Clemson.

Yes, but what are the media rights worth? The GOR doesn't spell that out. Are they worth the $17M the ACC pays out, or the whatever their new conference pays out? Since it's not stipulated, the price could be whatever they would have made in the ACC between now and the 2035 football season or whatever they'd make in their new conference between now and 2035 football season.

Sure, it could be negotiated, but the ACC has the right to just say "no" and the contract remains valid. FSU, or whomever else could jump up and down, scream, or hold their breath until they pass out, but the contract is still valid. The ACC (or ESPN) doesn't have to let them out. Most likely, the school is gone after it's up either way, so if the relationship is damaged, who gives a ****?

Supposedly the ACC teams have a deadline of August 14 or 15 if they want to make a move for next year and its driving wild speculation. FSU and Clemson are the only large schools that are highly coveted and constantly talking about wanting out, this helps drive speculation around them. ORWA enter the speculation for a few reasons: National Media guys have said the B1G wouldn't take from the PAC again until the Big12 does because of optics, the Big12 has checked that box for them. ORWA is looking at an even more diminished PAC membership and are more willing to negotiate the shares. The extremely wild speculation is that they could use the savings from ORWA and give it to FSU and Clemson to make up for what they're going to owe the ACC. I'm not sure if that is even possible, but its certainly driving some of the talk about those 4 schools going to the B1G. I'll believe that one when I see it.

What is this magical aug deadline to make a move from and where did that idea come from? I’ve never heard of this and am quite confident that doesn’t exist…

Because they haven't been good for a while, and their alumni base is small. Think TCU before their run last year, but with the history of Nebraska.

They're the definition of a high ceiling low floor program.

Yeah, I’m convinced most of these realignment “sources” are motivated leaks from someone with an agenda either trying to destabilize a conference or keep it together. Which means these recent FSU leaks are probably from someone at FSU that wants to light a fire under ESPN to pay them more now for fear that they could lose them to Fox and the BigTen.

At the heart of a lot of these realignment moves is Fox and ESPN jockeying to control access to the most profitable properties in CFB. ESPN right now has the high profile ACC teams and I’m sure Fox would like to pry them away.

IMO Washington and Oregon are moving. No doubt. Question is if they go to B1G for half share. Or Big 12 for full. Arizona to Big 12. Utah and ASU probably go to Big 12 unless their arrogance prohibits them. Big 12 will take as it solidifies themselves as the #3 P5. Eliminate the PAC 12 as competition while you can.

Yep. The almighty dollar has crumbled so much. I wish we could just have 8 conferences of 10 teams each or something....all regionally based. However, the haves would never agree to being on the same playing field as the have nots.

These are the things the folks making the big bucks at ESPN and Fox are looking at.
