Just spit-balling here. I started to re-think things by evaluating my own viewing habits. Pretty much, I watch every ISU FB game and BB game. I bleed over to watching a few other B12 games and very few other conference games. So, I'm spending more hours watching BB than FB.
BY sees NCAA BB as undervalued (358 NCAA teams * 2.16 avg hrs per game = 773 hours total available hours of in-game media coverage) against FB (133 * 3.5 avg hrs per game = 465). That is quite a disparity of which marketing can exploit. Other things to consider: NCAA FB adjusting rules to shorten games, growing health image of FB, seasonal weather offering less competition to watch BB than FB, larger post season tourney for BB.
Bottom line: I think BY is ahead of the game here in believing CBB will be upping its media value at a 'rate' faster than FB ups it. Oh sure, it won't likely ever catch FB, but it has the room to grow ... a lot. I think the long play is not bad at all by BY.
Im pretty much the exact opposite.

I will watch pretty much anything ISU is playing. But FB is the only thing I ever watch any other teams play. Usually B12 is my choice FB games to watch above others, but will watch others too.

BB I only watch ISU. Same with other sports, but as long as ISU is playing I will watch.

Does anyone have some other Fan forums to read?

I've been reading Colorado (https://www.allbuffs.com/threads/pa...la-everybody-talking-out-of-their-ass.151049/) .... its interesting to see how their views on realignment have changed.... mostly ok with joining the big12 after seeing the writing on the wall... but there are still lot of talk of academic prestige and cultural fit (like any of that matters anymore)..
Someone posted a site that lists all the forums for all schools. Maybe someone can post that.

Pods won't be a thing. The B1G and SEC are eliminating divisions and I would bet good money the Big 12 will follow suit.
Call them pods, protected rivals or whatever you want, but you are going to have to group teams in such a way that they get to play a few teams every year and then the rest of the conference enough that they feel like they are in the same conference.

What you do not to end up with is what the B10 did and end up with one strong division and one weak division. Going to pods or protected rivals assures everyone that they get to play the same three or four teams every year that they have some type of rivalry with, but also play everyone home and away at least every four years.

Feel like the Big10 & SEC are eliminating divisions because they want their 2 highest ranked teams playing in conference championship game. Having Purdue or Iowa being the Big10 auto qualifier for the CFP would not a been a good thing.

Once Big10, SEC or Big12 get to 20 teams and we have a 12 team playoff, they will go back to divisions. Flex the 9th conference game to have 4 division champs play each other and winners advance to CCG. That way having a Purdue/Iowa conference champ wouldn't knock OSU, UM, USC, etc. out of playoff (top 10 team).

This is mostly me as well, except the last part about other sports. I don't watch anything college beyond FB and MBB. Every school in the country could drop every sport outside FB and MBB tomorrow and it wouldn't impact me a bit.

Its all about med research now. Who cares.
That might be true, but high academic schools that are not AAU might want to get their message out.

The perception in the sports media (I can't speak for media overall) is that AAU is the gold standard and only standard for academic status.

ISU and other schools might want to emphasize where they stand in research spending/grants. Maybe break out medical from other research.

I agree that AAU status is exaggerated because I feel (maybe wrongly) a lot of that research money is related to graduate programs, whereas athletics pertains to undergrads for the most part.

Yeah, this sucks, not for the teams coming in but as a reminder that we had to leave it before being booted out. And public perception is that if you are not AAU, you aren't strong academically.

No disagreement with what you have stated, but I post only to point out ND and Miami are now Big 10 qualified (along with Virginia and North Carolina which is where I think this is going).

This is the worst thing to happen to college sports. How many teams will the big 12 have in 5 years? 18-20? Ridiculous

Yes, but conference affiliation goes way beyond athletics. Much bigger money in being affiliated academically.

OuT has no business at a B12 meeting f uck them.

I'm sure there are some matters pertaining to the upcoming season they would make sense to be in the discussion.

I imagine he's not on the call when they're discussing things like expansion.
