Duh!
Somebody else on this board might have already brought this up, and if that's the case I apologize, but the money to pay for these big TV contracts won't be coming out of the CEOs' Christmas bonuses. It will be driven by advertising dollars. If you think all the commercial interruptions are bad now, stand by. In every single game, we're gong to get an even larger torrent of ads targeting viewers with the intellectual capacity of tree frogs. (Fortunately for advertisers, that is a very large demographic in America.) Are the networks so delusional that they think viewers will actually sit through those commercials, pay attention to them, and consider their messages in making future purchasing decisions? Or will other viewers do what I do and change channels every time commercials come on? At what point will viewers finally get fed up with all the ads and lose interest in watching altogether?
Honestly, I switch over to check on other games during commercials. Doesn’t everyone?

Was talking this weekend with some friends who are Hawkeye fans. Iowa has a freshman running back that is going to win the Heisman, the oLine looks like the best in the nation, and their defense is 1985 Bears elite. According to them. Or in other words, just a standard conversation with an Iowa fan.

After seeing their competition on Saturday, I could understand where their confidence comes from.

Why would the PAC’s number not include their T3? The Big12 WAS the only conference that didn’t, but a few years ago when ESPN+ took over T3 was included, just not for Texas and Oklahoma who’s was higher.
Because their Tier 3 is on their PAC Net, which they own. Unless the media entity is going to buy that. Which I have not seen anything predicting that.

Also, doesn't the PAC actually loose money on their network? If anything, I think they are around the breakeven range.

Not exactly sure.

They did during covid, but before that they were paying out 2-4MM each. Sadly, that is what the B12 gets for their T3 from ESPN+ I think.

And that is probably from all the schools not named Texas or OU. I am sure USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington could probably get more if they did it similar to the Big 12.

I think it will once the big XII gets rid of OuT. OuT was actually getting a chunk of our ESPN+ package because they required that to be included with the championship game. From what I remember of the CCG payout, it wasn't just the amount attributed to that but a partial cut of the rest also. OuT literally were terrible conference teammates, they are in for a lesson come SEC time.

Yeah, they got the benefit of a little of our tier 3 money without providing any content of their own. Glad they will be out and we can hopefully have a unified conference that understands the importance of each other.

Conzano really needs to stop proposing the Big 12 schools as potential PAC10 expansion targets. He’s giving his reader base false hope and hurting their attempt for stability.
(And losing any bit of credibility from non PAC fans)

"When it comes to rankings, perception, and inclusion in a soon-to-be expanded and crazy-lucrative College Football Playoff, ESPN controls a big chunk of the narrative."

Someone should tell him that when whatever expanded CFP model comes up in a few years, other networks are going to be able to bid along with ESPN. This narrative that ESPN is light years more relevant and the B1G shot itself in the foot by walking away is pretty silly.

Moron doesn’t investigate much. Texas and OU are considered disinterested parties due to the way they chose to leave. This means their votes don’t count.
