• The Big 12 question is a big one. If the ACC and Pac-12 loosely partner, would the Pac-12 then covet Baylor, Houston, Oklahoma State or maybe even BYU as expansion members? The first two get you into the state of Texas and the other two could help fortify your conference. The only way the Pac-12 could even consider this is if the media valuation of the members far exceeds the annual $30 million-a-year estimated distribution I mentioned above. Either that, or the newcomers take less than a full share.
A lot of what this guy says is pretty well thought out conjecture. However, are we supposed to believe that the same Cal and Stanford that rejected BYU a couple of years ago are now going to accept BYU AND Baylor? Maybe they'll take Grand Canyon State too. I guess they are probably more desperate now but it is more likely that this guy didn't think this one through very well.

Testifying
Did he say why they were in such a bad spot monetarily? Pandemic related?
He didn't elaborate too much but he did say he's still in the important financial email list and alluded to UCLA still owing him $500k.
He said once they join the B1G, they should get out of debt.

Was that the game we were up 28-7 at half and Barry ran the 2nd half off kick off back for a TD and we lost 42-28? I was at that game.

Drunk as a skunk at half time and crying in my beer at the end of the game. ISU football in the 80’s got to love it.

This is why I think if the Pac-12 ends up eating the Big 12 (which would be only if ESPN wants it to), it would likely add Texas Tech, Houston, Oklahoma State, Kansas, and Iowa State. Dealer’s choice on the last spot going to San Diego State (for a SoCal presence) vs. K-State.

The eastern time zone and religious schools in the Big 12 would be left out.

I understand that TCU is much less “religious” than Baylor or BYU, so maybe it would be acceptable especially because of its DFW location. In that case, we might be on the wrong side of the line.

Honestly, I don't remember exactly but he had something like 45 yards at halftime and about 300 yards at the end of the game.

The one in Ames (1988), ISU was up 28-21 after the first play of the 4th quarter...and lost 49-28. Sanders had 293 and 4 TD that afternoon.

Who knows, I mean the only "name" left in the conference after USC and UCLA is Oregon IMO. The schools left after that have mediocre attendance, It was fun playing WSU in the bowl game a few yrs back, but it wasn't earth shattering. Oh well it will all play out in a while and then we can all decide if we want to continue to support ISU sports through ticket sales, financial donation or NIL.

Maybe, maybe not.

You will not touch your glass of ice water and leave half your baked potato on the plate at the steak house when you're full.

A month later when you're lost and alone in the Sahara you'll want those things more than your whole bank account back in civilization.

TLDR: Everything is situational. And their situation is changed for the worse. And possibly about to get even more dire.

Pac 12 is doomed. They have been mostly absent from the CFP the last 10 years. No one from the Big 12 is going there. Trying to rationalize how the PAC 12 somehow survives is a denial of reality. Discussing which Big 12 Schools will be left out to let Pac 12 Schools that collectively get a worse offer than the Big 12 will get in media rights. What are you smoking?

I didn’t like ESPN before and will never trust them in the future. Hopefully Fox wishes for the Big 12 to be an important property, and they are not forced into bankruptcy.

Does anyone know if UCLA has to forego some media dollars for a few years? Everybody else joining has, so unless they are an exception, they are still going to be struggling for a few years.

Just amazing the difference in tone here and on some Pac 12 boards/among Pac 12 journalists.

Nobody knows who is right! Some humility about the contract negotiations that you have zero insight into is warranted.

USC and UCLA are leaving. The reported offers of PAC 12 media rights were that they were terrible when USC and UCLA were included. Speculation is the offers will be significantly lower. Big 12 estimates are reportedly to be significantly higher. Logic and common sense means Big 12 teams will not leave a better deal to go with a poor PAC 12 deal with the 2 most valuable schools looking to leave. PAC 12 journalists are desperately throwing out silly possibilities.

Can’t wait to welcome the lucky ones that are still “P5 journalists” to Ames in November in the near future.
