that island napoleon got sent to
It’s somewhat heart warming to read big 12 fans optimistically considering potential new members each time a realignment shake up occurs.

Realistically we’re the dog lying under the dining table eating table scraps.

I guess it’s more fun than the doomsday scenarios but none of this is “good for Iowa state” The blue bloods are converging into super conferences and the big 12 adding a few more turds doesn’t give us a seat at the table long term sorry
Give me any P5 school. No more bs religious or directional commuter school.

Before forecasting more schools jumping to the big 10\SEC, remember that any additions will most likely have to meet\exceed the new average for the existing schools.

There are valuable brands remaining in the PAC-12. But do any of them clear the 100million mark the big 10 is now sitting at?

Testifying
Still crazy to think about OU, UT, etc leaving for the PAC years ago and how it could have made that the dominant conference.
Now the PAC on the surface has been admitted to the emergency room.

I think the B1G is going to end up taking USC, UCLA, Cal, Washington, Oregon, and maybe Stanford, Think they want to do that many so the LA teams won't have to travel so far so often for at least a few games.

Agree take at least 6 Pac12 schools. That way there are 5 west coast football games. Then add 4 from existing Big10 schools. That just means 2 flights to MW or EC a season.

I honestly don’t think the Big 10 cares anymore. They are dropping the nuclear bomb right now. Just going for domination of the college football media landscape and can add just to keep schools away from other conferences.

But the only other conference that matters to them now is the SEC.

The SEC has the same high bar.

I think this could leave plenty of teams available in the PAC for the big 12 to have its picking of.

I can tell you that here in Colorado, hardly anyone is even aware of this news today, nor cares. And this is the 17th biggest TV market in the country.

The more this sport becomes non-regional, the less people are going to watch nationally, and then these super conferences will make less money. These contracts make sense now but will they in 5 years? 10?

In 10 years, the top programs in the two super leagues will probably ask themselves again, "why are we carrying this dead weight?" and then break off again to create a super super league. Then the whole cycle will start over again and half of the super super teams will want to break off again. Somebody has to lose these games. And unless a salary (NIL) cap comes into play, there will be perennial losers and winners. Even with a cap, half the country wont watch if their teams arent in the picture.
Because no one in Colorado really cares about CU. The idea that CU brings the Denver market is a myth. And their viewership has only gotten worse since leaving for the PAC.

Denver, and the rest of CO for the most part is an NFL media market, not a NCAA market. And anyone that tries to say any different will have a hard time proving it. Even the alumni are more interested in the Broncos than they are the Buffs.

The more I think about it I hate all of this. It's just a crazy mix of teams and no conference culture.

How do the tier rights work in this world?

Just give me some sweet Maction and late late night WWC.

I wonder how the Big 10 schedule will look. Gotta think tOSU wants USC every year.

The flip side of this is that if no one else leaves the Pac, its schools may prefer to stay put rather than jump. And the opposite may be true: the Pac-10 could get to 12 or 14 or 16 via Kansas, BYU, Texas Tech, TCU, Oklahoma State, Houston, whatever.

Anybody here who is confident that - if no other schools get poached out of the Pac - we would be in a far better position than them, is delusional. We just don’t know yet. They would have Oregon and Washington tentpole programs that we lack. We do not know either way.

This is why I think an announcement that Oregon and Washington are going to the B1G would be fantastic news for Iowa State.

IMO schools like Standford, Cal, Oregon & Washington add to the Big10's value. Maybe not those schools as standalone entities- but they increase the value of having USC & UCLA. Plus those schools will bring eyeballs and territory the Big10 currently wants- No Cal, Seattle, Portland.

IMO with streaming- complimentary schools will have value in a revenue model that shifts from cable subscribers to streaming subscriptions.

Same as Rutgers bringing the NY market. Nobody in NY gives a s**t about college football. They all care about the Giants and Jets.

Still thinking Fox and ESPN will not be able to control the total NCAA audience. The rest of the P5 has just as much dedicated viewership as the P2. And given the ever-growing bottom feeders in the P2, they'll create bad matchups which the networks will regret. I'm not a marketing person, but I do have common sense. There's so much wrong with this power move. Especially, if the rest of the NCAA unites and solidifies. In 10 years the P2 grab will cost the endorsers their pants. Of course that's just an opinion. Heck, I'm a Bears fan and I rarely, if ever, watch other league games. Unless it has a bearing on the Bears (like end of season playoff race). Same goes for college.
The NCAA is dead & eventually the SEC/Big ten will cut ties & govern the conferences separately.

Ppl tune in to see the most exciting product which is talent for sports & the SEC/Big Ten will consolidate the top talent which most casual viewers will watch. Loyal fans are predictable & the powerbrokers know where their numbers reside but the casual fans will not watch North Dakota State now cuz it’s always been the P5/Division 1 with the competitive talent.

Their bottom feeders have bigger fan bases who will loyally watch em lose & their prime time match ups will be USC vs Michigan which won’t have to worry about losing casual viewers to Kansas State vs BYU. It’s the AFL vs NFL now so casuals will see nothing but Fox/ESPN hyping these conferences.

Ppl like us will stop watching but new consumers are born every minute & all they will know is the mega-conference that took over college football & enjoy the historic rivalry between Rutgers & Stanford.

Which is more likely: PAC stays alive and promotes 2 from the MWC. PAC dies and the final 2 from the PAC join the MWC?
I think its more likely that at least 2 more PAC schools go to the B1G, then that will be the end of the PAC. If only these 2 go, there is a small chance some try to piece it together, but I think the last 2 years has shown what the end game is here.
