Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Hahaha sure bro. Like I was wrong about collectives? Or PE? Or Unequal rev share? Or the ACC staying intact? Or congress interaction? Or a million other things?

Yep I missed the USC move, that’s just about it.
You’re the BIG version of cykadelic.

Wrong on how the BIG was going to come on board to NIL, wrong on USC/BIG expansion, wrong on ACC GOR being ironclad, wrong on BIG exploring PE.

Dude I was spot on with NIL, I mentioned the USC thing so try again on that one, also the ACC is iron clad as look around, the ACc is still there, and again big ten didn’t do PE

Impressive you went 1/4 on there and the only one you were right on was the one I mentioned I got wrong. So kinda 0/3.

Just impressive really.

Congrats on Sorsby. At least you got your guy back.
Campbell has essentially admitted that if Cruz-Cantwell was in place, this mess isn’t happening and Sorsby isn’t playing. This obviously illustrates the dire need to get the bill passed ASAP not only for ISU’s sake (which you and others obviously don’t care about) but for the industry as a whole.

The backlash vs Tech is already intense and I question the kid actually plays.

Lol, yeah I'm sure Campbell is all broken up about the Sorsby ruling.

Duh.

I think some people don’t realize that the school was involved in suing to get Sorsby to be eligible. The “noble” decision would have been to not support it from the start. But again Cody is gonna Cody

Or, you know, Cody could have not spent millions on lawyers to get the ruling. He's ABSOLUTELY playing because Cody assured he was going to be eligible.

But keep right on licking those boots...

Where did I say anywhere that Big12 or ACC fans would adopt new teams? I agree they won't.

The University of Chicago, Villanova and Creighton examples just show the academic side of schools can thrive without playing P4 football. Isn't that their core mission? Not professional-sport franchises.

I'm a Cyclone fan to the bone. Have been since 1982:
  • How many Big12 titles has ISU won in football? 0
  • How many New Years bowls have we played? 1
  • How many fans showed up for Big12 games, in a conference that has lost: Nebraska, A&M, Texas & OU over the years? Around 60k
Maybe I'm an optimist, but If the Big12 isn't at the P4 level and eligible for the CFP. We'll be just fine in a tier of college football with the best 36-48 teams from the Big12, ACC, MWC, Pac12 & AAC. The competition level & rivialries will be attractive enough to keep most Cyclone football fans engaged. And just like it has always been, our expenses will match our revenues- whether it be $120M or $75M.

Think about it, there are currently 6800 football players at just the P4 level. That talent needs to play somewhere. So your comparison of ISU to UNI is silly. The talent level at Iowa State won't change dramatically. Sure it might decline a little if the Big12/ACC adheres to the House Settlement agreed level ($20Mish) or declines. But kids gotta play somewhere.
Why can't you have both ,strong academics and solid sports programs, NW, Michigan, Vanderbilt and many others do, it does not have to be one or the other. Do you believe that if ISU or like schools dropped down that money would somehow start flowing to the academic side of the university?

Whether we like it or not, a universities athletic teams is a major driving factor of these schools bringing in students, unless you are an elite academic institution. Indiana got more positive press for their university these past couple year than anything that has happened there in the last 25 years, all because of the success of their football team, which means more students enrolling there, a few will be scholarship athletes.

I think Cody is probably correct here that if the SEC secedes, they will still face the same legal challenges the NCAA is facing.

The first time the SEC tries to make a kid ineligible, there will likely be a lawsuit.

The SEC would have a better chance of winning the lawsuit though as they could say the kid is welcome to go try and play for a different conference if they don’t like it.

The article also includes some stuff on state labor laws that I’m not sure I understand fully but I agree with the gist of the article, which is that getting a CBA in place would be very difficult for the SEC.

I hope the SEC does this. Burn things to the ground.

Imagine the CBA battles between conferences- without illegal collusion, it’s an arms race. One the SEC can’t win.

....and I'll keep licking those boots as long as he keeps championing Cruz-Cantwell which is needed to pass for ISU's sake and would have kept Sorsby from playing CFB. That is all I care about. As I previously posted, the backlash vs Tech is intense and I doubt the kid actually plays.

Of course, Purple Hawks like yourself and others here have made it clear that you don't want the bill to pass.

I’d be interested to know if the SEC can secede with a simple majority vote or if it has to be unanimous. We know how Georgia will vote and I’m sure there are other SEC schools that feel the same way, but I imagine there must be at least some schools that want to stay in the NCAA.

I'd love if it would pass. I just live in the real world where there's next to zero chance of it happening.

Again, you have zero argument other than hope. That's why you, without fail, have to go to name calling and cliches. It's sad.

I still see no way it’s anything but bluster. They can’t do it without collusion with BIG, as BIG will become a P1 if SEC goes it alone

Based on my very flawed analysis of social media, Georgia fans in particular have been in meltdown mode the last year over “how ruined college sports has become”

It’s not surprising to now see so many of their leaders being out front on leaving- I’m guessing they’ve been flaming their base for months. Taking the ball and going home in response to the BIG becoming the top conference

Granted it is common across all the SEC

I’m not a fan of the bill, it doesn’t do anything the market can’t do better

whether it was intentional or not, getting this kid eligible is better ROI on getting change than lobbying could ever be

I don’t think it was only that- it was also “let’s FOFO, P2 schools have been using the courts to gain an advantage”

As a greenblood Tech and Campbell have been at the forefront of exploiting how broken the current system is, while also lobbying for change. Just like the P2.

No issue with them on that. But they should have known that sports betting is not the same, and a topic politically untenable for a a Greenblood

LOL....as if you have been innocent of name calling and cliches throughout this thread....not.
