Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Cleanest would be ACC/B12 merger and create 3 new 11-team conferences. ACC GOR buyout drastically decreases at the same time the current B12 deal expires so strike a deal with ESPN, pool rights and engage CBS/Paramount/TNT and/or Amazon for the following 3 conferences (if B10/Fox and ESPN/SEC won't play ball on 7x10):

ACC: NC State, UNC, Duke, Wake, Virginia, VA Tech, Clemson, Florida St, GA Tech, Miami FL, UCF
Big 12 (old SWC & Big East): TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor, SMU, Houston, West Virginia, Syracuse, BC, Louisville, Pitt, Cincinnati
Big Country (PAC and Big 8): Arizona, Arizona St, Utah, BYU, Stanford, Cal, Colorado, KU, KSU, ISU, OK St

Schedule smartly so that CBS has an attractive GOTW each week from the 3 conferences including non con matchups between the 3. TNT and/or ESPN gets the next best games with the rest on CBSSN, Paramount+ and/or Amazon. You have inventory running from 10 AM CT through 9 PM CT. Play 10 game conference schedules with 3 champs getting CFP AQ.
At some point, it makes sense for Big12 & ACC to join. But before it happens schools like: ND, Miami, FSU, UNC, UVA, KU, Utah, ASU, etc will be in the Big10 or SEC. Big12/ACC teams will be screaming "Pick Me, I'll take a partial share for the next 30 years!!"

No way any federal legislation is going to be able to prevent further realignment. Supreme Court would strike it down. Or it would just result in earlier realignment.

The Big10/SEC will take a bite out of the high valued brands. But I do agree that revenue pooling between ACC/Big12 makes a ton of sense. It's not going to compete financially with the P2 but has the potential to still give reason for fans to go to Jack Trice on Saturday.

It only needs to compete with the non-elites of P2

Here’s an interesting article about the fears of an athlete strike or boycott if the Protect College Sports Act actually passed.

As the article states, salaries only ever go one direction and if you ever try to reverse it, there is going to be a lot of pushback.

IMO a strike would be a good thing for all of college athletics. That would mean the players would have had to form something close to a union which seems impossible right now.

The SEC is afraid of a union. They basically admit as much.

A boycott or strike could happen this fall for FB but it won't be primarily due to the pending bill.

It will be more so due to schools overpromising phony NIL deals for 2026-27 that can't get through the Clearinghouse and under the table isn't an option for the school/MMR and the athlete.

The problem with this line of thinking is that there are a TON of football players out there that will cross a picket line. We can all preach on here about how college players need to be paid their fair share. Problem with that is, college football teams are far more valuable than the players that play for them are. It's not like the NBA where a Wemby or Lebron can pump millions of dollars in revenue to your franchise. A few players really don't effect anything.

Not an Iowa fan, but Iowa has nothing to worry about. They're a top 20 revenue program. Came in at 19th last year.
Dude, it’s ok. You can admit it. All your posts are about how bad it is to be ISU and how great Iowa is.

Iowa is incredibly reliant on Big 10 payouts, and their TV ratings are similar to top half Big 12 teams. If they weren’t a legacy Big 10 team, they wouldn’t be considered for expansion.

If there’s some formal separation they will likely to have to grapple with a legitimately difficult decision of being the least resourced team in the highest league, lose their rivalry games, and never win, or be one of the most resourced second tier teams and probably win a lot but not get to take credit for Ohio State.

Is Iowa in a better position than ISU? Yup. Are they “safe”? Nope.

You were the one who brought up Iowa ya dope. How would they lose their rivalry games? They would have Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota all moving with them?
