Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Really weird how a FCS/Purple Hawk fan keeps on disputing the benefits:

1) Revenues doubled for each G5 by strategically bundling G5 rights with G7.
2) Have clear access to a national championship for all conference champs. G5 FB is only NCAA entity without that access.
3) Increased exposure:
  • Instead of getting their butts kicked by a P4 opponent in the CFP, the G5 would get their own windows during December for an 8-team playoff with the championship played in an exclusive Noon CT window on NYD followed by the two P7 CFP semi-finals.
  • The current CFP telecasts with G5 teams is devalued so much that ESPN is absurdly permitted to sublicense that CFP matchup in order to make up for its losses in reduced viewership. Another reason why the current CFB/CFP rights model needs to be completely overhauled.
If any G5 school doesn't want to double its revenue, have clear access to a national title and increase post-season exposure, they can elect to go indy like ND with the 7x10 schools, negotiate their own TV deal and hope to get an at-large bid in the P7 CFP.
You like to claim this double or even triple number for everyone, like its fact. Its not, its a theory, its an estimate, and unless this somehow actually happens, it will never be proven.

Not to mention it has been said the claim of double is more like 30%, not double.

That being said this is never going to happen, so... quit wasting so much time repeating it over and over.

Again, why would they self relegate? A 30% increase and a ****** TV window isn't going to do it. The damage to perception would cost them more money than the increase would gain them. This isn't just an athletics decision, it's a university decision.

And knock the PurpleHawk ******** off. You know you've lost the argument when you have to resort to name calling.

The primary impetus of Cody Campbell is TT. He has no concern for Big12, ACC or G6 schools. And if Campbell or anyone else thinks Congress will fix the issue, they are wasting their time and money.

Consolidation into P2 might be inevitable. But is that bad? Let schools that want to be professional teams, pay their football players $30M+ a year. I doubt Iowa State and 30-40 other Big10, SEC, ACC or Big 12 schools can sustain the current pay for play model, post House Settlement.
"But is that bad?" is the stupidest thing I will see on the internet this month (along with the dumb posters agreeing with you).

So you are all for ISU being a class lower than TOE, making 50% of its current media revenues and JTS never being at capacity again except maybe we play TOE and JTS is 35% full of TOE fans? Look at WTF has happened to Wazzu and Oregon St.

And your statement re' Campbell has no merit.

They are already relegated when you don't have access for all of its conference champs and get a small cut of the CFP TV pie. Not sure why this has to be repeated over and over again to you.

And no shock that the ones who cry the most about this are a Hawk, Purple Hawk and Sparty who all would love to see ISU get relegated.

Oregon State and Wazzu didn't draw (attendance or TV ratings, didn't belong and got right sized. Why are you comparing Iowa State to the worst possible power level schools? Do you think that little of Iowa State? Iowa State is still putting butts in seats and drawing respectable ratings.

Being in the WCC, as pointed out above actually INCREASED their attendance because Gonzaga, St Mary's and the like are better natural fits for them. People didn't want to show up to watch them get boat raced by UCLA and Arizona and in most cases they were the de facto visitors in their home arenas for Pac12 games. The WCC fixed that for them and the new PAC can continue that momentum.

Football wise, Wazzu was still able to attract a national title coach that was still a hot commodity (to at least one AD) the very next year and now they're in a spot where they can compete for league titles in the new PAC. Oregon State has always been dog **** awful and it's not everyone else's fault that they mortgaged their future on an ill timed stadium upgrade when they knew they didn't have the money in the bank. That's THEIR fault, not the big bad ESPN boogeyman.

I will paraphrase a Jamie Pollard quote from a Coaches Show within the past year: "Washington State and Oregon State got destroyed and two schools weren't enough to trigger Federal intervention. But the threat of twenty or more schools ending up like them will require it"

He called me "the typical knuckle dragging B10 dip$hit" who has "no effin clue on the purpose, rationale and impact of FBS media rights pooling" and is "likely unable to read and comprehend a long form article on the subject."

Actually pretty poetic stuff.

Wah

If one would read your posts I was responding to and knowing your desire for ISU to be relegated, most would understand.

Yeah, speaking of poems and puppets, someone needs to author a poem for your and Gonzo’s favorite Fox Puppet Boy, Tony Petitti, that would justifiably crucify him for his latest effed up CFP proposal => 24 teams with no auto qualifiers and with all teams chosen by a committee. Exhibit A of why the current oversized conferences need to be overhauled with 7x10 realignment. According to Puppet Boy Tony, the oversized conferences are so dysfunctional that they are incapable of determining a true conference champion (which is true).
I don't wish for ISU to be relegated. Now you're just playing the victim. Not a good look.
You’re wrong on all 3 counts here.

I’ll split the difference with you on this one, I 100% agree that expanding the playoff is stupid, I didn’t even want 12, I thought 8 would have been perfect.

I disagree on the conferences needing overalls as the big ten has never had a problem declaring a true conference champ. Can’t think of a year where the one who got the title would have been an issue.
