Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Who are doing these studies? People who want the Super League.

College football and NFL are two different animals. Individual game viewership is far different. Networks pay increased rights for inventory that draws more eyeballs. That's why Super Bowl ads are so expensive. Look at CFB game viewership- the top games are typically in the 5-10M views range. And maybe 10-15 games each week have over 1M views.

Your bi-fuc*ed media rights concept is fictitious. Currently ESPN, FOX, CBS, NBC, TNT and CW all pay media rights fees to televise games.

ESPN has been willing to pay more because their ENTIRE business model is about televising live sports. They don't win media rights contracts, they're televising Pro Pickleball.
They already televise fake golf...SMH

There have been multiple valuations done that conclude that existing bifurcation of CFB media rights deals are leaving billions of dollars on the table. Pooled rights would at least double revenues for all of FBS like it does for the NBA and NFL if properly done with 7x10 realignment.

And I’ve seen nothing that disputes that

It has been made very clear that the B10 and SEC would be downsized to their legacy ten members and retain their B10 and SEC brands. I am sure the likes of Ohio State and Bama will be happy with that and rid themselves of Rutgers, Mizzou, etc. while doubling their media revenues.
Awesome. Will keep an eye out for early reports about USC, Oregon, Nebraska, Maryland, UCLA, Rutgers, Washington being forced out of the B1G. Seems like that'll be a big story. I guess my thinking or the thinking of people who, you know, dabble in marketing and branding would be that the addition of programs like USC and Oregon in football would effectively enhance the B1G's brand identity. Thanks for setting us straight.

Non of these schools care about being in the BIG. They do care about money and ability to stay relevant. It looked bleak during the PAC negotiations, therefor took the BIG lifeboat (as would anyone). If a model was presented to College football I wouldn't be surprised if they voted for the new model that was regional based? It has to make Cents but none of those teams are die on the vine BIG.

Yeah, there is a good chance of it happening. Presidents have to get on the same page and stand up to the Fox and ESPN puppet boys who don’t want pooling and rational realignment. And given the puppet boys want SCORE passed, the only way they get it passed is if they agree to the SBA amendment, pooling and 7x10 to double/triple revenues (which the Presidents should obviously be on board with).
Tripling the revenues is not a sure thing! Also...if everyone has the same revenues...NO ONE gets ahead! When have you seen these college ADs and presidents tell their "constituents" that their goal is to be equal to everyone else? The reason we are in this situation is because schools are trying to get ahead! Not trying to be fair to others...and certainly not equal to others! Reality will dictate this...not hopes!

I don't disagree about USC, Oregon, et al not being ride-or-die B1G.

I'm just glad we finally have confirmation from @cykadelic2 that this new 7x10 college football model WILL happen and that it's going to happen in the not-so-distant future. Looking forward to the first articles sounding the alarms that the B1G and SEC and Big 12 are to begin offloading institutions. That's going to be a massive story. I don't imagine the SEC is going to be too happy about having to dump Texas and Oklahoma along with a few other looooong-time member schools. Those will be some fun Finebaum shows to catch.

Every time I see his predictions on how college football will be turned on its head to create a level playing field for all conferences and 70 schools it reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer tells Jerry he's going to put in levels at his apartment, different levels all over the apartment with carpet and lots of pillows.

Kramer: "It's a simple job. Why, you don't think I can?"
Jerry: "Oh no, it's not that I don't think you can. I know that you can't, and I'm positive that you won't."

Just substitute levels with the 7x10 CFB model. Lol.

There is so much corruption in college athletics right now. Always has been but more now than ever due to more $$$. I bet if you gave truth serum to the BIG and SEC commissioners, there are several teams in their conference they'd like to bounce. For the SEC If GA, Bama, Auburn, a couple others said "we'd support the smaller conference" model. Hell he'd deliver the message next day and sleep like newborn.

Yeah but doing that takes away automatic conference Ws for the top half programs and makes their schedule way, way tougher. I don't think they'd willingly sign up for that. Conferences need cannon fodder to be successful.

LOL, you have no flippin clue about what bifurcation refers to. It is conferences separately bidding out rights instead of pooling them and bidding them out in strategic bundles where multiple bidders can be engaged for both regular season and CFP like the NFL does. That obviously doesn’t now exist.

Yeah I am confused. Since bifurcation means divided into two parts. How is your use of the word correct? Last time I checked, every conference bids out their rights independently.

He thinks college football is the same as professional football where professional football falls neatly into one actual league... the NFL.

I think he believes the NCAA is the same thing.

OU and UT will be happy to double their media revenues even if it means the SWC being reincarnated.

You are truly the typical knuckle dragging B10 dip$hit I was referring to in a prior post.

You have no effin clue on the purpose, rationale and impact of FBS media rights pooling and why amending the SBA is being pursued. 7x10 realignment will optimize the pooling with multiple bidders.

I realize you are likely unable to read and comprehend a long form article on the subject but I will post this again:

Each conference bidding separately has resulted in a split of SEC/B10 vs everyone else. Pooling FBS rights enables doubling of revenues for everyone with an element of unequal revenue sharing from the pool based on TV ratings that likely maintains revenue advantages for the SEC/B10.

Ooof. You're starting to get mad.

Hey it's not my fault that not a single one of your predictions on this stuff has ever come true. You can call me all the names you want. In the end, you're just going to be wrong again when the magical 7x10 model never happens.

But cool article.

Here’s another previously posted that you won’t be able to comprehend:
