100% certain “truck stop” ISU brings 10x real eyeballs as SDSU. Speaking as Iowan living in SoCal.
Unless they change the name to the San Diego State Lakers they will be second class all day, every day

I say we take SDSU but require them to move to LA and rename themselves Los Angels State.Unless they change the name to the San Diego State Lakers they will be second class all day, every day

About the only thing he said which I disagreed with is the consequential effects of Covid. If I still lived in L.A. or S.F., I definitely would find 'outdoor' activities during Covid. While in the Midwest, I'll bet people were more creative in finding ways to see their teams. So, imo Covid definitely hurt the P12 more than the B12. That said, I suppose one could still point to that being a 'more dedicated' fan base.About halfway through, but this is an excellent article, with real data and analysis. Thanks for posting!
Izzo isn’t paid by the network and he hyped Big 10 bb.100% overrated the past few years but maybe I just listen to different sources but I hadn’t heard anyone (not paid by the network) hyping up big ten basketball. Agree everyone with a brain had Purdue losing because that’s what Painter does in the tournament but they ended up a one seed with a Kaiju playing center so they get the media love from those that don’t follow.
Next year sparty could be excellent and OSU could be sneaky good but the rest of the big ten is going to have another down year.

The TL: DR of it: While the PAC has several larger media markets than the Big 12, it does not have anywhere close to the level of fan intensity in those markets, and demographics related to viewership have the PAC on the wrong side of the trend.![]()

One of the interesting things I noticed is that outside a few areas, the Big 10 struggles to get the passion numbers that the SEC and Big 12 have. Look at Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, most of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. That is abysmal. The only passionate fans the Big 10 has is in Ohio, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin and parts of Michigan. The only thing the Big 10 has in its favor is sheer numbers. USC and UCLA added numbers but not passion. If and when those numbers start to decrease(look at what has happened to the population of California, Minnesota, Illinois and other parts of their footprint), their TV rankings will follow suit and absolutely crater in parts of their market. Adding USC and UCLA allows them to make up a lot of their lost ground in numbers, but it won’t be long before the population decline starts to catch up with the Big 10 once again.Wow, I went back and read every other article in the series too. It's some of the best analysis I've seen on those topics. Thanks for sharing
Why so many people moved SDSU from an afterthought to a ‘must add’ for the B12 and PAC because of a great run in the tournament is mind boggling to me.The PAC 12 slappys saying how this proves that SDSU is a huge add and needs to be swept up before the Big12 comes calling just shows how out of touch the PAC media/fans are.

I don't think we have anything before football season starts at this rate.Me, expecting some actual news on the PAC’s “imminent” media deal, every time this thread pops up in Unread

They’ve missed 3 or 4 self-imposed ‘deadlines’ so far. But as one of the presidents pointed out last week, they have 15 months remaining on the current deal. I guess the question is when do you really start getting nervous.I don't think we have anything before football season starts at this rate.
This makes a ton of sense. In the part of Wisconsin I live in we had stuff shut down for 6 weeks from late March to early May in 2020 and then it took a couple weeks to essentially get back to business as usual with full bars and no masks by Memorial Day.About the only thing he said which I disagreed with is the consequential effects of Covid. I think the most important snippet in there that is probably lost is the comment that TV execs put the media value of a conference at 70/30 - 80/20 football: basketball. The TL: DR of it: While the PAC has several larger media markets than the Big 12, it does not have anywhere close to the level of fan intensity in those markets, and demographics related to viewership have the PAC on the wrong side of the trend.
So basically what all of us had figured about them, but with data backing the claims up this time.
Especially when you consider the TV ratings of a national championship game involving SDSU.Why so many people moved SDSU from an afterthought to a ‘must add’ for the B12 and PAC because of a great run in the tournament is mind boggling to me.
