Disney isn’t going to sit back and let fox/cbs/nbc have exclusive OTA windows. I would be surprised if they don’t add inventory to ABC. They big12 is still going to have highly ranked match ups they would want to air.

Duh!
I think Amazon and Apple are looking for bargains until they better learn the business.
And the B12 and PAC already produce their own tier 3 broadcast content. Maybe that could be increased to Tier 2. The schools have some infrastructure and capabilities that A and A would not have to develop right away. Could help in their runway to get up to speed in this space.

Can you enlighten me on why the shoulder programming would improve their returns? They get better margin on the shoulder programming than the main programming? I don't get it.

I could be wrong, but logically, If I’m FOX, and I have a million eyeballs tuned in at the conclusion of the big noon game at 3:30, I’d think they’d be more likely to stick around to watch a big 12 game than a dancing with the stars rerun. If I’m spending mega millions for those eyeballs, why not keep them engaged on my channel as long as possible?

Why wouldn't TX and OU approach B1G at this point? It would be more money. Or why wouldn't B1G go after them? That would be the ultimate move to show B1G is clearly #1.

We have been thinking/talking about how Fox/ESPN are trying to drive all the good brands into one conference for their convenience and to lower overall costs. Essentially like a monopoly buyer (monopsony?).

What if B1G flipped the script, and once they get all (or a lot) of the big names/brands/content, they become a monopoly supplier and drive up the price?

What if the B1G just flat out absorbed the rest of the Pac12 and Big12??? Went to (counts toes) 38 teams? Well, maybe skip a couple and go to 36.

Could they then have so much inventory/content they drive up the prices for broadcasters?

Just speculating. But with Warren talking about unionization, maybe B1G is planning to drive all this to the end result of basically a pro league with most of the existing P5 involved, with a different governing structure? And the B1G would drive that governing structure.

Interesting times.

I think everyone is forgetting that the SEC will want to counter. This isn't done. If a late window can help the SEC, then look for them to absorb some teams in the West. Oregon, Washington, Utah, ASU?
The SEC could expand with ASU, Utah, Colorado or maybe Arizona if they want to create a dominate presence in the South/Southwest. They already have inroads with Texas, A&M and Oklahoma. A little tough believing UA and CU bring enough value to SEC. But dominating a region of the country might matter to TV Networks.

The SEC also might be patient feeling that ACC schools are a better fit and more valuable.

I don't think Apple and Amazon are as interested in CFB as B12 fans want to believe. They are viewed like white knights around here, flush with cash and eager to get into the live sports space. But so far we haven't seen much evidence of that beyond message board chatter. The SEC and B1G who have all the leverage and options have signed big deals with the traditional players. Apple and Amazon don't appear to have factored in on either.

I'm just not convinced that second tier college football conferences are the next step these companies want to take for live sports, unless they can scoop us up for bargain basement prices.

Get some goddam pants on your mascot and get that basketball coach a bigger ******* shirt.

This is BIG TIME college athletics for ***** sake

Meh. A bigger shirt is just opportunity to build more mass. Some of us have that issue with the bottom half of our shirts. Otz has that issue with the top half. Good for him.

I agree

In addition -- A big 12 deal in the near term with Amazon or Apple would be the death of the big 12.... IMO.

SEC is only guaranteed the late afternoon window and the ACC is guaranteed nothing other than 4 prime time kicks on ABC. It can't be overstated how truly awful the ACC did with their deal.

I would bet if ESPN/ABC wants to show more ACC games than contract specifies, the ACC isn't going to quibble or they come to an agreement on more money. Cheaper for ESPN/ABC to elevate ACC or SEC inventory to ABC or ESPN games than purchase inventory from Big12/Pac12.

ESPN controls inventory for 22 games each week (SEC/ACC/AAC), with bye weeks that may be down to 16 to 18 games some weeks. So it will be interesting to see if ESPN feels the need to add another conference to fill the 6ish Big10, Big12 & Pac12 games they currently show each week.

I think the SEC would raid the ACC before looking west. So, the B1G gets the PAC and SEC gets first dibs on the AAC, then the B1G gets theirs. Then the BIG12 sweeps up as many of the forgotten schools from both conferences as possible.

Boom! Realignment finished for a while.

I could see a deal for tier 3 content to replace ESPN+ as the conference's main steaming partner. But I agree for tier 1 or 2.

This really would only be if Fox/NBC/CBS wanted to load up their main channel and FS1 by picking up 4 or more games a week. Otherwise, if ESPN is involved with tier 1 and 2, I'd imagine tier 3 would stay with ESPN+.
