I'd be stunned if the we didn't have some realignment announcements by the end of the week.

Pac-12 negotiating now is a last ditch effort by Stanford, Cal, Wash St, and Oregon St to save face before joining the WAC, MW, or AAC..

Also wouldn't shock we if we see them float rumors of Boise St, UNLV, and others to join the Pac-12

If they needed authorization to begin media negotiations, therein lies one of their biggest problems. Media 'discussion' should be ongoing. They should always know their media value. Therefore, 'authorization' merely means ... what? Dissolution of their existing contract(s) in order to open the door for new offers? They really are a mess over there.
I am reading into this that this is a hail mary from WSU, OSU and Cal.

The PAC 12 may try this, but with USC and UCLA out, and with UO, UW, UA, ASU, UU, and CU each with at least a foot out, the numbers they’re given isn’t going to entice anyone to come running back inside.

Not to mention this might be Dodd’s “Hail Mary” at a death to the Big 12. Probably doesn’t like that our survival is eminent through all of this.

yep... they are trying to get Arizona/ASU/Colo/Utah a reason to pause before jumping. I am guessing this is more of a diversion than an actual case of getting a real media deal w/o USC/UCLA but right now the Pac 12 needs time. I suspect the p12 Mountain 4 already have decided the Big 12 is the better option but until their intent is announced PAC12 needed to do something.

Oregon and Washington can eventually negotiate a reduced share over the course of 10-15 years for entry into the B1G. They don't need to panic the same way that the rest of the remaining PAC schools do. Even a reduced share as members of the B1G would likely be more than they earn now from media rights.

Saw some speculation that this could also just be a move for the remaining 10 to see where they’re valued before any moves. Gotta think Oregon and Washington want to fully know what pay the next couple years (or year) may look like if the B1G holds out longer on one or both.

May have some implications if they think a move to the Big 12, even temporary, may be better suited or if they can stay put for now if the network quotes suggest BSU, UNLV, SDSU, etc. may offset some of the loss to a more palatable number.

If their alternative is raiding the Mountain West, then Oregon and Washington will be coming here. The only question is if the B1G (or SEC or ACC) will invite them, or if they can hold the now Pac-10 together and go grab some Big 12 schools. Oregon and Washington are not staying behind to add San Diego State to their conference.

Timing is interesting if they want to hurry to get a tentative number from FOX/whoever that they can show the mountain schools and say that staying is better for them.

Keep in mind it’s 9:00 AM on the west coast so this meeting was even earlier than that. Seems like trying to get ahead of the Big 12 meeting today.

Reeks of desperation

They’re not grabbing any Big 12 schools.

I think the alternative that could make sense is maybe doing the unequal revenue sharing in the PAC and making the backfilled Mountain West schools have reduced shares.

I doubt that would be any kind of long-term arrangement but might give them (Oregon, Washington, Stanford?) a few years to wait out the B1G or to decide to join the Big 12 if nothing happens.

Think the best move for the mountain schools is probably to get out of the PAC asap and go to the Big 12.

For how many times the media has delighted in the prospect of the Big 12 being gone, it would be extremely satisfying to outlast the Pac 12 and ACC. Stick to the Big 12 branding.
Need some graphic arts gurus to do something with x2 somehow for when we go to 24. Could look cool but I have no idea how. (Big XIIx2)

What I find funny is when fans of Iowa or Nebraska make comments like " I will allow Notre Dame in the BIG, but never ISU" it sounds like they personally have the ability to grant membership into their club.

When in reality, perhaps in just a few years, Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, LSU, USC etc. will form a super super conference and leave behind their smaller schools like Iowa, Nebraska, etc.

Why does Ohio State want to essentially give the same share of revenue to Purdue (for example) than keep double that amount themselves? Because the BIG members have a special brotherhood?

Reality is greed and selfishness are alive in college athletics....but perhaps there will be a group of universities (like ISU) that actually will find a niche in this new market and have fun.

This is why I would like the big 12 to open their arms and be the statue of liberty for us misfit universities:

"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore"

Let's welcome the Washington States of the world to the conference...after all, I have a lot more fun at a wedding in a barn (big 12), than a wedding at a pretentious cathedral (big 10).
I would love to see ISU in the big ten for a number of reasons but this talk of kicking out Nebraska and Iowa is a bit off due to ratings. unless the new league they spun off in was very tiny Nebraska and Iowa would most likely still have a place due historic and recent ratings. Last year they were 12th and 20th in overall ratings.
