Ready Player One

The movie pulled big money in China, haven't seen USA results yet.

I went Friday and really don't know what to think having had no experience with the book.

Speilberg (besides being 71) looks to be past his prime.

Often the sign of horrible movies. We can thank them for 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th sequels to movies where the first one sucked. Sadly I'm not exaggerating those #s.

I get where you are going here and mostly agree, but hey, I actually liked the first Transformers movie. The rest of them..... well......... In general, China likes big things that go boom in their movies whether they are good or not. This is why they eat up Boom Boom Michael Bay stuff as well as other stuff like Pacific Rim.

Took the kids to see this yesterday afternoon and we all really liked it. I enjoyed the various nostalgia throwbacks. The kids just thought it was a fun movie. I was a big fan of the book but I really tempered my expectations knowing that a lot of the book would need to be changed in a movie adaptation. Overall it was really well done for a Spielberg summer blockbuster and I'm excited to get it on Blu-ray to see all of the small details I missed.

So far my favorite part was
the setting of The Shining when they were searching for the second key. It was very unexpected and well done IMO.

I haven’t seen the movie but started reading the book last night. I’m 1/3 of the way through and I didn’t want to put it down. I hope I get time to finish it tonight. It really sucked me in. The one problem I have is the insane amount of 80s. I get that that’s a big part of the plot, but kids in 2044 are not going to think Atari games are the bees knees. They will laugh sbout how simplistic they are. Other than that I am loving the book.

I believe the quote you quoted referenced "pulls it off well" which I agree hasn't been done before.

Scott Pilgrim did it in a purposefully chunky way that didn't appeal to larger crowds then the fanboys.

It was pulled off very well in Scott Pilgrim. It's acclaimed as a well-made movie. The failure was in marketing. They couldn't get people into the theatres. The ones who did see it, really liked it. (I had no idea what Scott Pilgrim was when it came out. I was working on a remote project and just went out to a movie with coworkers, and that's what we picked. I loved it.)

See the RT of 82%/83%

I normally can't get the entire family (wife and I along with the son and daughter) to all like a movie...Scott Pilgrim was liked by all. A bit corny, but relevant and fun to watch.

Excited for this one, for sure.

I really enjoyed the book. Actually, I listened to the audio book for this one. It was narrated by Wil Wheaton, which was a bit of nostalgia on its own.

I actually tried, but I didn't like the audiobook. I don't think I like the book in general, but I think the concept is interesting enough that I'll definitely be watching the movie.
