Out golfing this afternoon, nearly ran this little guy over with the cart when my eyes were on my ball. Screenshot_20210606-180927_Gallery.jpg

Did anyone submit anything to State Fair Salon this year?

What camera and settings

Nikon D7500 with 200-500mm Nikon lens. Missed a sharper image cause I was setup to shoot Soras in the twilight and shade of cattails and looked the other way to see the egret, so was at 1/640 and f/5.6. Something like 1/1000 at f/11 would have been better but no time to mess around, just had to shoot, only had time to change focus mode. Never seem to be ready for birds taking off!

BTW, anything posted here looks little sharper if you click on it if it's an larger size image. The forum compression to make it fit in the message window degrades everything.

Nice! Fellow Twin Cities birder here. DM me if you are comfortable sharing the location of this owl. I'll trade you for the location of these guys (if you haven't already seen them).

Hey- you’re talking to a total amateur. I feel like I just got lucky on that one. Glad you like it- even if it’s not perfect!
I have been in photography for 40 years (took classes at ISU). That picture was not something you "got lucky" on. You have a very good eye for this (not a total amateur).
