Just read a linked story that showed Iowa is the #4 fattest state in the union with an obesity rate of 36.4 percent. One of only two northern states to make the Top Ten.

Second least fattest (okay not a state but was listed) was Washington D.C. , Pants new haunt.

When I go back to my hometown I see former school/classmates and some look like they just simply didn't pay attention to their metabolism slowing down, and the response was just to keep eating like they were 16.

Ames peeps what was the banner a plane was flying over Ames around 5pm Sat about? Drove by on the interstate but couldn't read the banner.

I didn't want to post this in the thread because I didn't want the OP to think I was specifically attacking him, but does anyone else hate the phrase, "pack the jack?" (or I guess referring to Jack Trice Stadium as "the Jack" in general?)It bothers me much more than it should, but I just think it sounds really stupid

Ehhh. I don't personally have a problem with it, but I'm not going to say you're wrong in not liking it. For instance, I hate when they say Clones instead of Cyclones. (The one exception is CloneCones...that rolls off the tongue) Just yick.

Which they leads me to hearing a Scheels commercial during the radio postgame. It started with "Hey Cyclones fans...", and it just didn't sound right. It's grammatically correct, but I feel like "Hey Cyclone fans..." sounds better. Now that will bug me any time I hear it.

It's lonely being a grammar Nazi.

One of the hardest things for me to get over in journalism is the singularity of teams. So the Iowa State football team IS playing West Virginia. Not ARE playing West Virginia. It’s pretty obvious it’s a singular team, but I always wanted to pluralize it because it sounds better to me that way.

This was a discussion on FaceBook. I think the consensus was it was was for seed from the Farmers Business Network. I didn’t see it, but the pictures people posted it looked impossible to read! Not really what you want from advertising. ;)

Followed it from another site but Katmai national park has a fattest bear contest on their facebook page. Holy Moly those guys and gals really pack on the pounds getting ready for winter. The park has a voting contest for picking the fattest bear, couldn't vote because I don't facebook but the pics are cool.
I was there in September of 98. They give a mandatory seminar on how to walk around the park, and about interactions with the bears, before they let you out to wander. There are some fat bears, eating salmon like its going out of style (which I guess it is for the year).

We had one over here a few weeks ago advertising cheap steaks for sale at a pop up shop. Had to be pretty much right under it to read it. Even with them flying up and down the busiest intersections that is not a good technique. I can't imagine paying someone to fly that all weekend long was cheaper than renting a spot on an electronic billboard.

I often wonder how many people notice/look up when a plane flys over. I know I am in the minority that will always do it but does the general public notice/care?

I know there there is a game watch in the D.C. area as I had a coworker transfer out there earlier this year and he attends them.

Is it Saturday yet?

The thing is, was there an audience they were targeting? I mean there wasn’t a home football game (and with the rain, there would probably be farmers there), I think the big ag shows are over, and the majority of college students are not going to be buying seed corn and soybeans.

We always look up when there is a plane. Never know what you might see, kinda fun.

We saw the plane & banner, but from a distance so we couldn't read it. I saw the FB discussion also. What I didn't figure out was why they would be flying an advertising banner that day. ISU was playing in Oklahoma, so it wasn't for them. Do you know of another outdoor event that would have prompted them spending that money?

Edit: Heh, should have read two posts further before typing this! :D

Our Blu-Ray player crapped out so we are in the market for a new one. The debate though is do we buy an X-Box or just get another Blu-Ray player. Leaning towards just getting another player since I am cheap the the X-Box is expensive along with the fact most games don't interest me.

If you can, wait a few weeks for Black Friday and go for the Xbox - usually great deals on those or even good bundles. Can probably even pick one up for same deal leading up to Black Friday (Wal-Mart, Amazon, etc.), so might not have to wait.
