You have... BABY... TURKEYS?!?! They are soooooo adorable!!Apparently turkey families also dig the smell of fresh deck stain in the morning.
Between this and the cicada it's like wild kingdom in the hood today.

We used to do our DR tests with Comdisco in Wood Dale. They had a suite at Wrigley which was more concrete box than suite but you had private seats and a great view just left of home plate. They let us use the tickets one time. Sosa hit one to the wall and that place was deafening the moment it left his bat.Do you ever go to Wrigley? One great place to see a game, whether you're a Cubs fan or not. And afterward saunter down to Ditka's for a drink and post-game convo.
They make great watch dogs. Our dogs were even scared of the Toms.
These guys are pretty urbanized. Even when the Toms were courting a few years back they were pretty much oblivious to me videoing them struttin' around. It was pretty cool. The hen they were displaying for was not so impressed though.
Two years ago:
I like to do that looking over my shotgun barrel.A friend of mine has about 5 acres that back up to a large cornfield. He has turkey all over the place. In the spring it's fun watching the males strut about showing off for the females.
I suggested crossbow.I like to do that looking over my shotgun barrel.![]()
I suggested crossbow.
Cicadas, katydids & crickets make up our nighttime symphony here...in literal surround sound. I LOVE them. Except for the last surviving katydid each fall that is arrhythmic, lonely, and LOUD. All of them together are great. One by itself really sucks.Gave you a dislike cause I can't stand cicada noise. Makes me edgy.

I encountered someone whose last name was Tuma today. So naturally, this played in my head...

Two weeks ago we were up at my Mom's in far northeastern Wisconsin - we were sitting out on the deck one evening at dusk. The sun had set, but it wasn't fully dark yet, that time my Dad used to call the "gloaming"....
Anyway, a pair of loons started having a conversation with each other. One was on Mom's lake, the other was a distance off. It was absolutely riveting. Nobody said a word, for almost 20 minutes. That was cool.
