Beautiful day on the lake.

High water up there still?

Yes, but it's finally receding. The average gauge height at the spillway on West Lake is around 4.25 feet and it crested on the 4th at 6.65 feet. It's currently at 6.44 feet but we had more rain today so we lost a little ground. There is still a 5mph speed limit in effect for all of the lakes so there hasn't been much boat traffic which is unusual for this time of year to say the least.

"something went wrong" is the most innocent way of describing a bar explosion I can think of haha.

lol, true. It sounds like it wasn't the bar's fault - think it happened outside the front of it. But it's like a two story brick type building that is definitely gone now. Sounds like our pizza place is pretty well damaged as well.

And Harimad and 2015, what was going on in that subreddit and why were people banned? I got banned from the college football subreddit for 24 hours once, but that was because I told a Sooner fan to go **** themselves (and I still think it was justified)

It's not a bad thing, lol. The sub is dedicated to Thanos, and somebody got the idea to "balance" the sub, Infinity Gauntlet style. So yesterday, the Snap happened- half the sub got banned ("killed"). We were instructed to subscribe to /r/inthesoulstone, so I'm there.
It's been a fun week or two.

My dad and I had a similar experience last summer. We were digging a trench for our sump pump drain and knew we were going to have to cross the fiber optic line but the cable company said it was at least 14" deep and we'd easily be able to see it. At about 8" deep my dad literally took the shovel out of my hand as I was about to dig again and there was the line. It was a dull red color (I'm colorblind so I could hardly see it even after my dad pointed it out) and no bigger than a headphone wire. I had hit it with the shovel the previous scoop but luckily didn't cut it.

Son has optical fibers in his lab. They look like fishing line and sometimes they use a razor and scrape the coating off the fibers. Very cool to see an optical fiber drawing tower where they heat and draw the glass into fibers.

I feel like the first job interview in every cycle of looking is like a freebie. Like a training mission.

I'm really sorry to hear about your grandma @harimad

Happy belated birthday, Chaser! Also, Chaser and SCyclone, what do you think of the term "Sconnie" to refer to someone from Wisconsin? It always sounds like a slur to me.

Eh, it doesn't bother me. I'm proud to be a Wisconsin native - almost every one of the people I have taken there fall in love with the place. There's so much to do, and people are very friendly, social, and outgoing.

My favorite line about Wisconsin is that you can go into any tavern in the state (and heaven knows there's a bunch of them!) and you will know everyone in the place inside of half an hour, and they'll all buy you a drink. ;)

Fort Dodge girls beat Urbandale last night 5-2 to earn a trip to state. (It'll be a home game for them, of course!) Pretty impressive to rebound from an 18-21 season last year to 35-7 this year. These girls really do love each other and play hard for each other - it's fun to watch. Plus their winningest pitcher is only in eighth grade....she's the coach's daughter. :D

Explosion not good this morning. A firefighter was killed :( I had read yesterday that a couple had been taken to the hospital. They were evacuating/trying to source the leak when it lit. Internet rumor is that it was a directional bore that hit the line..........multiple companies working on construction and at least one had refused to do the bore as they said it was too dangerous.

Saw it on the local news here last night and then on GMA this morning. Said to MrsWx "Hey CG (used your real name but don't know how to pronounce it so I always feel like an idiot) said something about that on CF. She was very impressed.

The school I went to made it also in 3A. If the games were in Des Moines I’d try to go

For work, one the customers I deal with is a lady at a pork processing plant. At the end of her E-mail signature, she includes this image:

I'm like 99% sure that none of the pigs at that facility are near that happy.

I have a buddy that lives in Cottage Grove - wonder if he felt/heard the blast?

Have gotten such a good laugh thanks to Twins today. He is a treasure.
Good day for entertaining threads!
isufbcurt just nailed it in the I35 flyover thread:
Oh man I didn't know Minnowa Construction was the contractor. I race against the owner of the company's son. lol. They own aggregate and hauling companies up in NE Iowa and SE Minnesota.

You could always start up an awkward conversation with him to give us first hand updates.

Me: Soooo your car was pretty fast in that last race, but your bridge work is pretty sloooowww.

I can just see him doing it!
