Should probably mention cats for KC. Was doing walkabout the other day in the trail through the woods and saw this dude kneeling down looking at something. Turns out it was a little wild black kitten. He asked if i wanted a kitten. Ah, nope. Told him it was likely one of the offspring of the neighborhood feral cat population, don't think anyone dumped a kitten in the urban woods.

If he does leave then he deserves it. He worked hard and only has a small window to make money playing basketball. More power to him.

I'd love to have him back for another year though.

I think it's a win-win if he returns unless he returns and turns into a look at me Trae Young guy looking to only bump his draft stock. Though decision but to me it seems like a huge gamble to go now. Guessing he is hearing lots from organizations that will over promise and underdeliver with the idea of stashing him in the "minors" at low cost to take a flyer at him. Once you take your swing and miss at the NBA it's gone for good. You can bounce around for 8 -1 0 years as a Euro player but that rarely ever leads back to the NBA. The NBA is ruthless.

Edit: Damn, three posts in a row. Bad omen for me. Not good, not good at all.

Anxiously awaiting @jcyclonee report from his Memorial Day key club party. He has been quiet wonder if: he had ACL surgery and didn't make it through, had a crazy tryst in key club and ran off with her, coached too long in the 100 heat and is now sitting in a tub of aloe Vera lotion to soothe the sunburn. I think the last one is most likely.
Spent the weekend at FIL's cabin for the last time (he's selling it in a couple weeks). This made it a "just a normal crazy key club tryst" weekend so no running off with anybody. Came home and put together a basketball hoop. Does anybody know a good way to put sand in the base of a hoop? The current opening allow for about a tablespoon at a time and we need to put about 300 pounds of it in the base.

PapaLew says fill it with water.

Also, we went to the bar across the street to see our singing/guitar playing friend. He is playing in Okoboji next weekend for the first time to I was able to give him boring glory days stories of my time in Okoboji.

The people at the table in front of us won a live lobster from the lobster claw machine. That's a really weird concept.

When we walked in, there was a car in the parking lot from Fort Dodge that had an ISU sticker. They snuck out before I could find them. I probably should have just walked in and announced, "Who's the other ISU fan from FD here?"

Funnel time. Still going to be tedious with lots of lift and shake which will be a pain the more and more sand you get in. Guess you have already decided sand over water.

But that freezes and cracks and leaks. I guess we could move it into the living room for the winter. The wife would love that.

Depending on the brand some bases materials will expand and are designed to accommodate freezing water. Sand is heavier and makes a better base though.

CG - You asked for things that might actually help in summer months. Well don't forget even if your power goes out or other not fun things stand in the way of getting cool that you always have cold water. Run a cool bath if you start to feel overheated. Even running cool water over your hair and the back of your neck can quickly cool you down and keep things bearable.

Staining the deck was pretty miserable this weekend. I started in while Mrs. Velo was out on Saturday and she had the sunscreen lotion in her car so I put on that spray that I don't like. It was windy when I was spraying it and I wasn't sure if I was getting it everywhere. Let's just say I didn't get it anywhere and it is pretty clear that I broke out an old muscle shirt that I didn't mind getting deck stain on. I'm lobsterized.

Petunias & Tiger Lilies were the most exposed. Most of the rest of it, the rain filters through the canopy.

Missed this earlier. I hope the guy either located the rest of the family or took the kitten with him. How old was the kitten? Old enough to fend for itself? A feral kitten needs 6 months at a minimum learning how to hunt with its mother for it to be able survive on its own. Without those skills, it becomes a scavenger.
