you got pretty far with another one in a little Texas town, didn't you? Chance the faculty know each other? Or maybe I'm mixing it up with the MS one.

I had a lot of communication with Tarleton State in Texas, and I was a perfect fit, but my lack of possessing the PhD ended their actual search. I don't think the search committee ever even saw my stuff through the HR filters.

Huh. Just got a phone call from a university in Odessa, TX.
Didn't recognize the #, so I didn't answer, but looked them up online.
No voicemail. Secretary was confused a little when I called back. The prof that called may be calling again shortly.

It's weird. I don't remember applying to anything there, and I keep track of this stuff.
Maybe your name got passed on by one of the ones where you were close?

That was my dream. False alarm, though.
Mississippi didn't know this, because it would be impossible to know this, but when they told me in the flush letter they were sure I'd do well on the job market this year, they would never have known that almost nobody wants a 19th Century historian this year.
Even the ringer that appeared and took that visiting job would be having a hard time this year. Chances are that he stays put and that doesn't open again.

I feel for you, man. I keep hoping that one will pan out for you, though!

In line at the post office. Literally like, just a 4 minute wait. Which isn’t bad in a city and two weeks before Christmas. And this woman behind me is ******* huffing and puffing like it’s the biggest inconvenience she’s ever faced in her life.

Not exactly sure.
Can't even tell much except it looks like his midriff is wrapped (or maybe that's just the pattern on the singlet) and that his headgear is "overstuffed". What's going on there? Is he okay?

Midriff is just the singlet style. They stuck a full guaze pack over his right eye, and then wrapped his head to hold it. Due to the wrapping, he couldn't see out of the right and the left eyelid was pushed down to make that one kind of a squint look.

First match of the day, went tumbling out of bounds and the other guy fell on his head driving his right eye into the mat. Got a lump above his eye from that. Wrestled two more matches without much issue (is a 170 right now but wrestled 195 that day), but in the last match got head butted right in the eye and he said it felt like a zit popping; liquid everywhere. We took him to ER and they steristripped the heck out of it. They don't like to give stitches in eye lids.

Looks a lot better today. Iced hard and the steri strips cover most of the black eye and open wound. Will wear a hockey type mask for the next week or two until it heals.

Looks like a good ole Iowa high school farmer boy if I’ve ever seen one.

If only he was, just raised that style I guess. They had a hole at 195 from his best friend getting hurt and having surgery. Since it looked like a like a freshman would be stuck there, he found out his descent plan (going 160 after NY) would allow him to go 195 that day only, so he gained a pound to break 170 so he could weigh in at 182 and then bump up to 195. I was more concerned about his knee than anything.

Is she hot?

Don't want four posts in a row so I added. Just got an email telling me that this board election that I agree to run for (had a couple local employees ask me several times to run since current said he wouldn't run, and then decided to after I'm on the ballot; and we all know incumbents always win on things like this) is wanting everyone to meet to discuss the results in a little over a week and then have first meeting immediately afterwards.

It's a 100 mile drive there. I have to do this to find out that I most likely didn't win? Almost makes me want to say screw it and pull my name. Lose one day and then turn around and do it again in two days for the annual meeting where I thought I would officially find out. If I lose, I'm ditching the annual meeting.

At first glance I thought it was some kind of Santa singlet outfit. I need some sleep.

Maybe she needed to have a bowel movement. Probably should've let her go ahead of you.

I usually get behind somebody who is asking "What are the different options of shipping these five packages to Yakayak, Outer Mongolia?" Or some old lady that wants to pay in cash and with the correct change as she fumbles through her purse looking for a couple more pennies.

Caseys is my problem spot. I always get person cashing in scratch/lotto tickets and buying new with the winnings and then needing some screw ball type of smokes. Or the drunk guy buying a sixer of individual tall boys and wanting each in a different sack when they only have 4 so they have to go hunt for more.
