I think now this needs to be only between the families of the victims, the offenders, and the DA. No one else needs to be involved. Most of the people commenting on the facebook post have nothing to do with this. They just want to be involved to be involved. They stick their noses into everything that goes on around here and always try to play victim.

@harimad I would check out the Trek Fx series or another manufacturers offerings in the hybrid market. They are meant to offer those wanting a solid, reliable bike generally for exercise without having to lay down. There are different models or “trim levels” like cars that offer more higher end parts (disc brakes, carbon fork etc.) as you go up.

My wife and I both have Fxs and I enjoy mine. She got preggers and has not ridden hers since sooo yeah. Once we get comfortable putting our daughter in the trailer we will go on more family rides.

I got a hybrid (although just a low end from Target). I had originally bought it for my daughter, but it was just a tad too big for her. Went for my first "long" ride this morning. I need to practice some bike etiquette, scared the crap out of a poor woman walking today.

Stop signs do not apply to bikes ;)

This. The hybrids are great for either leisure riding with friends or for a faster fitness ride. I got a Specialized Sirrus (like the Trek FX but the frames fit me better). I take it out for 20 - 25 mile rides on the paved lake park trails all of the time. Tires are narrow enough to roll well (700x30) but wide enough for good gravel paths as well. Also wide enough to ride comfortably over some of the not great pavements (bumpity bumpity). Did also buy a carbon framed road bike last year but that is for better trails/roads and longer or faster rides. If I have to just have one bike it would be the hybrid.

1. Pass on the left when possible, but only when you can see there is no oncoming traffic. Give them as wide of a berth as possible by getting clear over the left edge of the trail. You don't know if they are unaware of you and are going to make a sudden movement.
2. Call out way in advance "On your Left" or "passing on your left".
3. If they have headphones or ear buds on shout out quite a bit louder. If you aren't sure they heard shout again as you get closer and slow down.
4. If there are small children on bikes or on foot slow down for your and their protection.
5. If there is an animal on or off a leash slow down as well. You don't know what they are going to do.
6.If you are the one being passed acknowledgement that you know the passer is there is appreciated. A quick wave of the left hand if they are passing on the left will do it.
7. Pass or meet traffic single file. Even if the trail is relatively wide it is poor etiquette to pass double file and extend over the center line. Give the other person the half of the trail they are entitled to even if they are riding alone.
8. On roads and streets follow traffic laws but also ride like you have a right to be there. Swerving in and out of parked cars is more dangerous than staying in the traffic lane.
9. Don't pass cars within their lane at stop lights or stop signs. You never know when someone will be dropping someone off and a door will open right in front of you.
10. Keep to the right in the right hand lane when possible and practical. Don't keep so far right that you are in danger of parked cars' doors opening in your path or not having an escape route for edge of road hazards. It is best to be able to swerve away from motorists who want to pass you as closely as possible when encountering a road hazard rather than having to swerve toward them. Look ahead into each parked car. If you see a head on the driver's side give that car a wider berth, they may open a door in your path or pull out in front of you.
11. Proceed with caution through each intersection even if you have the right of way. A car may not see you or may not care. "I had the right of way" is little consolation in the ambulance.
12. Don't use earbuds of headphones for your and others' protection. If you "must" just use the right earbud so that your left can still hear passing traffic. Keep volume at a low level. Hearing engine noise, squealing tires, a car horn, or even just a shout may save your life

Sorry about that; once I got started I couldn't stop myself.

This is good advice. Also remember that you don't have to be married to the tires your bike came with. If you want to occasionally mountain bike but do most of your rides on paved or groomed trails you can easily change out knobbies for narrower less aggressive tires to cut down on rolling resistance. Knowing how to change a tube is a must. Being able to change a tire is just a step or two past that.

Job I applied for closes today. I imagine I'll hear something either way soon.
Neat one opened up at UNI and got an immediate application, but that doesn't close until the end of the month.

In other news, a different favorite site is suddenly cluttered with adds for hook-up sites, and the things I've found so far have hindered other sites instead of the ads I don't want.

Every single Disaster Recovery test I have to explain to people how to log onto the system. You would think it would sink in eventually. Half the time it is the same people.
One guy got to the userid field and asked what userid. I should have told him his old AOL id and password.

Sorry, D'Artagnan, I know you can defend yourself just fine, but I though good 'ole Cat Stevens was being a bit too much of a ****, so I flew the following flag in your defense. I'm not addressing the particular political points of view of either him or yourself here (in fact I'm not sure I agree with either him or you, but that is beside the point). I truly believe there really isn't cause to post with a **** attitude (even though I'm sure I've been guilty on occasion).

Thanks to the Babyplay list I had to go listen to 'Baby Shark'.

@cowgirl836 Gigglebellies and LittleBabyBum are great youtube videos to start out on

Littlebabybum has MANY versions of wheels on the bus. So, it doesn't get old.

A response I made to one of Grassley's Tweets this morning is getting some traction. I may need to shut off my phone to stop it from going off...
