Admit it - it IS tempting, right?I thought about going home today and working from home, but that 1. defeats purpose of being the receptionist and 2. I won't get any work done with Z home. : )

She's in her late 80s, is about 4'10" and MAYBE 80 lbs. She has broken several bones simply because she's fragile. Your advice is misplaced.
It did sound kind of cavalier. Apology accepted. Was not trying to be a smartalec. I know my FIL 79, has one and my mother always had access to one of mine at the farm before she moved to town at 82. Many snows, something besides a basic car could buy time. Sorry if it offended.
Ooh, That's a messHUGE pile-up on I35 S where it goes under Lincolnway. 8 semis, 40+ cars. Yikes! Be safe, people!!!

3-4 inches. Some blowing. It's cold, so what's on the road is probably a bit icy. The plows are only clearing one lane in the middle, and the damned semis blow through and cause mini-whiteouts when they pass slower moving cars. I HATED being on 35 when it was snowing. We just have a dusting of snow so far in the hinterlands, although some very fine snow is still coming down. Husband has meetings in Des Moines and Newton today.
Social media implies that snowpacalypse in Des Moines. So how much snow in Ames caused that massive wreck on I-35?

Started snowing here right around 11:30...just tiny flakes. It's now "officially" snowing. Parking lot's covered, but can still see grass and leaves. Husband's supposed to go to Mt Pleasant tonight. If it stays snowing at the same rate as it is, it shouldn't be a problem.
Just looking at the picture of that pile-up makes me tense. There was a video going around on social media earlier this year of a similar pile-up. The person taking the video and a friend stopped and eventually started helping people get out of their cars before more cars came crashing into them. In the video it was like an ice fog, and everyone's going the speed limit. No way to stop and no where to go when they finally saw the hulking tractor-trailer.
I'm thinking that direction should be fine on the snow but what do I know?
Hoping that Bon-Ton bankruptcy filing doesn't mess you up.

Shout out to dmacc for trying to kill me. My god the drive back on highway 30 was horrible. I couldn’t see 30 feet in front of me
I'm still struggling with some of your images. I can't seem to open anything from "giphy". It may be an Apple vs PC thang...I went about 3 weeks without being able to see YouTube clips on here after 5 years of being able to see them. Now, I can see them again. I don't technology well.
link to images & video up thread...After reading about the huge chain reaction crash on I-35 I believe you! Sounded bad.
