Pre-freshmen summer-Buchanan. Very nice and with a randomly assigned roommate. I was there because I did not meet the automatic qualifications for acceptance so I had to take a couple of classes and meet a certain GPA point. The roommate pretty much just slept in the room, the other suite that we shared a bathroom with had a gay guy in it (not that there was anything wrong with that) that got frisky with someone else in the bathroom, I also found a condom in the stairway. I ended up passing and getting accepted. No clue on the roommate.

The downfall of that was that I had to move out of Buchanan and didn't know if I would be accepted for the fall until the following Wednesday so I had to move everything back to Marion and then back to Ames a week and a half later.

Freshman-Larch...********. My assigned roommate found an empty room elsewhere in the building and moved to that. He said he wanted his own room all along so whatevs. That left me alone for the rest of the semester which was good and bad. Allowed me to be a hermit a little too much. I was in marching band so that kept me a little busy at least. Also I was freaking blind and dumb and it turns out at least one girl from that dorm had a thing for me.

Second semester I was assigned a guy from China who just moved there. Looking back I was overly hard on him but it was a HUGE learning experience and I enjoyed it. For example...he was from southern China so moving to Iowa in early January when it is super cold and dry he went and bought a humidifier. A month after classes had been in session I went home for the weekend and woke up with a sore throat which promptly went away when I got in the shower. When I returned to Ames I unplugged it and he figured it broke. Bad Wxman.
He also was a big fan of basketball so the NBA All Star game was required viewing. Linn-Mar was still in their run of being amazing at basketball so my parents picked us up to go down to Des Moines for one of the games. I had recently helped him study for his American drivers license which was an experience. My parents let me drive down to DSM and he was in back. When we got in 30 "WOAH" turns out he had never driven over 25ish MPH and was amazed that I could. He ended up getting me a gift thing from China that we used to have out in our house in KS.

Sophomore-Lived in Eaton which was much nicer. Roommate was again random and it turned out he had lived in this floor for a year or so as had most of everyone else so I was kind of the odd man out. They were all very nice and fun but we didn't do a whole lot together. MrsWx was at ISU then and I was in both the marching band as well as working for the football and soccer teams so I didn't have a ton of free time especially during the week. Only weird thing was that he slept on the couch he brought and not in his bed...oh and one time that MrsWx stayed with me I am pretty sure he was chocking the chicken in the middle of the night.

Junior-Moved out to Freddy with a couple of buddies and a random guy that I shared a room with. He again was very nice but worked overnights at a hotel in Ames so our schedules differed. One of the guys was OCD about cleanliness and the other was jus weird the more I was around him. I came back one time to a note about how I need to clean more. Just talk to me if it is an issue! Fast forward to late first semester and one buddy decided to move into his frat and my roommate decided to not come back for spring semester. The other guy decided to invite one of his friends to move into the apartment but instead of moving into his room he moved into mine. He again was nice but a complete slob and pretty much never slept. I woke up in the middle of the night one time and he was doing laundry (finally) and blaring music. I was none too happy.

Senior year was easily the best as I got another Freddy apartment with closer friends and we had separate rooms.

Roommate from then on won't leave

People think Higgins is a bad ump? Daughter watching Illinois/Illinois State softball. One player must have cuddled up to an official because they are making glaring favorable calls to her and I haven't even seen an inning.

and keeps making new ones, apparently.

You not finish your bachelors at ISU, boxster? I see you stopped after Junior year.

I had one roomie my first semester of freshman year, he flunked out. Solo for rest of year.

I stopped mid-post when I realized I was going to be late for my movie date. Took myself to the movies. Free parking and only two-fiddy for the ticket.

Also trying to remember the roomies was making Hulks brain hurt. So LONG ago.

I had one roomie my first semester of freshman year, he flunked out. Solo for rest of year.

Second year had one roommate of a brother on the floor. He flunked out after the year.

Next year I had two roomies in a triple, they both failed out and I moved off campus for next year.

Fourth year, off campus, 3 guys in two bedroom. One flunks out at semester. Get a new one and he brings his gf with basically. Other roommate flunks out after second semester.

So for last semester I moved with the one who moved in at semester and his now fiance to Huxley. He had graduated. I graduate and leave at semester.

I think you were a bad influence on these people that is a high attrition rate. Congratulations on having a higher alcohol tolerance than all those people. ;)

I will say that I learned the relationship between drinking and the Irish from one of the triple roomies. Never drank before. Would be stumbling after two beers. By end of the semester he was kicking it back like a stereotypical Irishman and we would stop letting him have free beer.

I know the triple roomies--and yes I remember your super high lofted platform. I don't recall who you roomed with your first year, though?

First roomie was HS buddy. She needed absolute quite to study, I didn't. Instead of studying in the quiet rooms downstairs, she would come in & turn off my radio, and announce "I'm going to study now". She had early classes, my first was at 9. She washed her hair every morning, then used a blow dryer. Did she dry her hair at the big bathroom mirror with the shelf and the outlets, designed for doing your hair? NO. She would come back to the room, turn the light on and sit on her bed to blow dry her hair. She was a clothes horse...she hogged the closet and the dresser that we shared. The record player was HERS. I wasn't supposed to use it when she wasn't there, but she had no problem with playing my albums when I wasn't there.
Stuck it out for the entire year because there were no available rooms. After that year, we didn't talk again until our high school 20 year reunion.

Next fall my roomie was the freshman HS girlfriend of one of my male buddies. They broke up about 3 weeks into the semester. Boy, THAT was fun. At semester I was selected as a "sponsor" (our version of an RA). I got a smaller, single room. Continued as a sponsor, and stayed in the single room the next year, then dropped out to get married.

One son & a high school buddy roomed together, and got tripled up. The buddy rushed, but couldn't move into the frat until he was a soph. Buddy had short man syndrome...always wanted to fight. Usually my son, who's a pretty gentle person. Third roomie had to keep separating them. Buddy finally got moved off the floor, son ended up being really good friends with the third guy.

Maybe I'm a little bit biased about sharing a room with a HS buddy. :D
