Sounds like the dog we had a while back. Was a jack russell mix. Adopted him from the shelter after he brought in of the streets. They said he very protective of his food. He was. Every time he was eating and I would walk by him he would turn to nip at me.

However, he was very protective of us. One night when my dad was out walking him, they ran into some coyotes. So Jack, creative right, backed out of his collar and chased them off. My dad was calling out for him for a while. He had thought they had got him. After a while, Jack comes walking back, happy as can be.

After a couple years of having him, he bit my cousin, unprovoked. We didn't want it to happen again so we had to put him down. We always knew that was a likely scenario. We did the best we could and gave him a good home.

Ran into some bees. Boss's eyesight is not the best, so he couldn't see them flying around when he was up in the bucket. So we called it quits and will have to go back and finish sometime. Not sure what kind, but if they're honey bees, we're taking any honey.

very briefly reading through, we had a dog who was abandoned near us ~10 years ago. Very sweet and friendly, but some signs of past abuse - super afraid of the water hose, large sticks, etc. Our dogs have always slept in the barn, in their own space but generally had access to where the cows are. In the winter, the cows are kept in the barn overnight - locked in stanchions. Came in one morning to one cow's face being all bit up. Pretty sure it was the abandoned dog. Had a couple more similar incidents over the next winter even with trying to keep her locked in a separate area. Eventually had to put her down as we knew she was a danger to the cows and because of that, the vet didn't want to vouch for her when we discussed giving her to someone else. Which was completely fair, it would have been horrible had she attacked a child or something. We think that the reflection of the cows' eyes at night set her off as she never had a problem during the day. It was really hard because she was just the sweetest, most eager to please dog. **** her previous owners.

Sorry to hear about your situation, cstrunk. Not easy.

Last night my girlfriend's dog (Ed) bit our friend on his hand after petting him. Ed's a pointer/rottweiler mix that has always had behavior issues. My girlfriend adopted him from random people in a Wal-Mart parking lot when he was 6 months old. She had a break-in a couple of years ago and the guy hit Ed pretty hard during the ordeal. This is the third time Ed has bitten someone. The first was someone who "playfully" punched her on the shoulder and Ed bit him pretty hard on the leg. The second was my girlfriend who tried to get in-between Ed and a random kid that walked up to them at a park and tried to pet him even though she warned the kid to stay back. Ed nipped her on the hand. And then last night's episode.

Ed is ultra-protective, has severe separation anxiety, and is easily startled. He is always barking whenever he hears noises outside out apartment. He's never tried to bite me, but I've always tried to be calm around him and now that I've been around for over a year, I think he "likes" me. But there have been a few issues. Like this past basketball season when I'd start yelling over a game, he got upset a few times and barked at me.

My girlfriend is very attached to Ed. She loves him to death. Ed has been there for her through some very tough times (including the break-in). She has tried since she got him (2.5 years ago) to correct his behavior. It hasn't seemed to improve at all. Last night's attack was unprovoked with no warning. My friend has been around Ed many times before.

We are considering euthanasia at this point. We believe that he is a danger to us (mostly me) and especially others.

My girlfriend asked me to call around to find someone who will do it. I haven't called yet. I haven't figured out exactly what to say that doesn't make us sound like we're just giving up and are bad pet owners. This sucks.

Anyone ever deal with this before?

You cannot take the risk of a dog this size hurting someone, especially a child. From what you have said the dog is clearly a risk and I'd put him down. :( I am kinda old school low tolerance for this stuff, product of my dad's approach.

I had a small basenji I had just adopted from rescue that I immediately returned after he snapped at some small kids in the neighborhood. A small dog like that wasn't likely to really hurt someone badly but I wasn't going to take any chance with that.

Bank Alfala in Karachi Pakistan wants me to confirm routing information for their wired payment. Pretty sure I've never done business with Pakistan, personally or on employer's behalf. How the hell do they find our email addresses...and get past the multiple layers of filters to my inbox?
