DH off to a beer thing and I'm off to Target and a couple other places for Jamaica things. Then I'll probably eat leftovers, wine, and read all night. I live an exciting life!
DH should be pretty excited about this outcome.

Feels like that sometimes, but USA's murder rate (per 100,000 inhabitants) is only 3.6. Compare that to Mexico and most of Central and South America (Mexico is >20, where I grew up - Puerto Rico - is 18.5) and it's not so bad. I feel a lot safer here than I did growing up! Watching the local news growing up was really, really depressing.
Not to make it too cave-y, but as a first world country, we really need to strive for better. Not saying that you think it's great, and I can't even imagine growing up in some of those areas (aren't pretty much all of central and South America considered second or third world countries?) but we as a country have to start setting our goals higher than "at least we aren't _______ country" when it comes to violence. And I'm not even talking about gun violence, but violence as a whole. It's still a major, major issue in a country we want to call civilized.
Again, not saying that's what you were claiming, just a piggyback kind of comment.
No, I completely agree. The main difference between a third world and first world country when it comes to crime is how it is handled by the police and the way the justice system operates. In many countries, the majority of homicides go unsolved, police is overwhelmed by the sheer number of violent crimes, and in some cases there is rampant corruption of both police and judges. Not to make it too cave-y, but as a first world country, we really need to strive for better. Looks like we convinced our insurance to cover the damage to the truck from the tree falling on it. It's an older truck and wasn't worth the premiums for more than liability coverage. No comprehensive = auto insurance won't cover a tree falling on it. We argued that it should come off our homeowners (auto & home are at the same company) and they said nope - auto. Lew kept going after them, and they finally sent an adjuster out to check on it, and he totalled it...
Liability only?
Yup. There comes a point in the life of a vehicle where the premiums are nearly as high over the course of a year as the replacement cost. However, we have made previous claims on our homeowners - we used to have an above-ground pool; a high wind caught it just right and ripped it to shreds and our homeowners insurance replaced it. I don't see why a tree getting blown over should be any different. If it fell on a shed, homeowners would replace the shed. Truck, shed...same difference.
My insurance always told me that acts of God did not raise my rates. I had wild animals maul about 3500 of damage (2500 deductible). No increase -- act of God. About 2 years later lightening hit and smoked a stand by generator transfer switch. About 3300 in damage. Another act of God, but insurance went up 1000/year for 2 years. Was told that 2 claims raise my rates. I argued the Acts clause, apparently one act is ok 2 isn't. Since they basically took back everything they paid me I asked to repay one claim, wouldn't let me.
Hi there my horror crew (Pants, KC, CyclonesRGr8), have you heard of this movie coming out?

Apparently based on a Stephen King story and one of those deals where it will be available via VOD before limited theatrical release. Looks kind of interesting.
What year is this?
