Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

Got to go to downtown Seattle today for dinner. Ate at a restaurant called Cutters by the ocean and then walked around downtown a bit. Played a game of guessing grungy/eccentric/hippie vs homeless. Some were easy, like the homeless-looking dude wearing Beats headphones while others were even easier, like the pee-smelling man in a suit. Some were a little harder, like a woman we passed by that interjected in our conversation. She made sense and it was an appropriate comment, but just seems odd she was just standing there talking to herself afterwards.
There's a lady that wanders the skyways up here that wears a full length dress with a head scarf and walks around singing hymns.

I followed an Audi in to work today. It had an ISU hat in the back window. I assume it was Boxster because any Audi being driven around here that has anything to do with ISU I just would assume to be Boxster's.

She was probably just waiting for a bus. If you ever tried to figure out a bus schedule in Omaha you can understand why people stand at bus stops talking to themselves. I'm not sure Stephen Hawking could figure out an Omaha bus schedule.

Wxman - I'm staying at a hotel right next to this place:

Unfortunately, neither of the people I traveled with wanted to go to it. One of my client contacts said it was pretty awesome and I love museums/tours/etc. Might have to go on my own next time I'm here.

Nice! I have heard that it is amazing tour and museum. That one has an option to go through Boeing the assembly plants which are amazing and huge. There is another one over at Boeing field that is pretty cool. They are both on my bucket list.

The Metroplex is getting a Commemorative Air Force museum sometime in the near future.

Well today is A5 Friday but Boxster don't be a leavin his house before like 8:20. Just not a morning person. Hell, I am barely awake.

If it hails on my new wheels I cam coming for Chaser. Just sayin'. Don't want to but the honor of the A5 would require it.

Even though it was an A3 and you hadn't left the house yet, it did pass by the downtown Minneapolis exits off of 94 like it was continuing on to St Paul so I'm still going to assume it was you because I'm not going to change my assumptions.

It's a little like when I first moved up here and I assumed that every limo that I saw either had Prince or Kirby Puckett in it. I found out that I wasn't the only one to make that assumption.

darn, that BeachAve thread sounded entertaining

and have fun Vikes, are you roadtripping with anyone?

Relay Iowa started this morning! Rough night trying to get Z to sleep though. She has now watched her first FULL movie. Hotel Transylvania 2......

I think it's her Halloween fixation. I have no idea why she likes Halloween nursery rhymes and songs.

If Vikes was in New York and ended up in Toronto I would think he had to have gone past Niagara Falls.

Putting those two thoughts into one post had me concerned that you and Z watched "Halloween" together. Poor little thing would be scarred (or scared) for life!

Then I quoted you. Clever girl!

I don't like Horror films. I was a bit concerned toward the end with the mean bats. She did alright.

Kind of wondering how hot it would have been on a day like today in this building (my workplace, 1st Trust Center) when it was new in 1916.

James J. Hill crowned his extraordinary career with a plan to build one office building for his Great Northern and Northern Pacific railways and First National Bank. This sixteen-story Classical Revival structure was the largest office building in the Twin Cities until construction of the fifty-one story IDS Center in Minneapolis (1968-73). The simple, functional exterior masks innovative internal systems that fascinated Hill, who experimented with natural air conditioning in his Summit Ave home before introducing it here. A six-mile network of pneumatic tubes enhanced internal communication. The elegant banking floor in the central atrium has been restored for use an indoor plaza.

That's how I visited the state of New York for the first time.

I went up to visit a high school friend who married a Canadian. She had "landed immigrant status" in Canada at the time. Since I had never been to Niagara Falls (or New York) we decided to drive to the falls, cross the border, and come back (as a day trip). This was in the 1980's. We crossed the border, stayed in New York long enough for me to get out of the car and for her to take a picture of me under a "Welcome to New York" sign, then went back across the border. I remember confusing the hell out of the border agents on both sides when answering their typical questions of who are you, what is your business in Canada/USA, how long will you be staying/did you stay, etc. Try explaining that you are from the USA, you are going over to New York for 15 minutes, just so that you can say you've been in New York. :)
