It's instinctive for them. Kip (the last one remaining before my grandparents sold the ranch when I was a teenager) used to try to herd my sisters & cousins & I around the home section.
Yeah he does a good job of trying to herd our cats. I've toyed with the idea of getting some ducklings for our acreage and letting him train on them.

Whatever you do, don't tell Nickels it only took two days for your dog to learn. You'll be in the doghouse.

Our first golden did take just two days. Our puppy learned fairly quickly but not quite that quick. She still will randomly have some issues so we keep a close eye on her. I am not saying it is a gender issue but the female is slower at learning than the male...

My grandparents had a dog that herded ducklings. Of course, his idea of herding was killing them and putting them in a pile outside the front door. My grandma was ******.

That dog also tried herding skunks on several occasions. Oh, and pickups.

Neither the skunks or the pickups responded well to his herding techniques.

Definitely post pictures!!!!
For reference, this is our pup.

She is paper trained, she'll go on a puppy pad by the door which is easy enough to clean up. I got her to go outside last night for the first time. I took her over to my bestie's house so she could chase her corgi as her corgi played fetch. She got a ton of praise and treats the second it happened, but she hasn't put two and two together yet.

This morning I got up an hour and forty-five minutes before work to take her outside. The first attempt was a half an hour, nothing. Came back in, put her in her crate for 20 minutes, took her back out for another 10...nothing. Back inside for another 5-10 minutes, back outside...nothing. Finally after an hour and a half I gave up. She peed on a pad by my front door and then ate her breakfast.
Long ago when our dog had puppies they were first paper trained. What we did next was put paper outside in a small fenced in area so they went on the paper outside. Then we eventually took away the paper. Probably won't work real well in midwest with the wind all the time

Lulu is an unknown mutt, but it's likely her mom was part red heeler, so she's also a herder. It was pretty entertaining watching her try to herd a corgi last night.

PowerPoint presentation completed. Now to give the presentation here in about an hour and a half, then study for about 8 more hours tonight...

....patiently waiting for JC to suggest something else to lead to an untimely death.

I may skip bands class and go to the gym. Almost 15 minutes till class start and no one is here to open the door yet....

Happily wrong
