Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

For some reason, when I run, my calves have been tight as hell. I've been stretching them more because of it, and it doesn't seem to do anything. It's pretty much my whole lower leg, so like, the calf, shin and back of the knee. It's not a cramp, or a sharp pain even. It's just like, the muscle is being pulled really tight the whole time. It's really ******* with me. I can't get much more than two miles in because they literally get sore as I'm running.
It's just your legs telling you to stop.

Good luck staying healthy with that heel striking. Have you tried "Pose" Method running?

oh I'm only heel striking for a very short time, just long enough to give a break to the pressure points on my left foot. Trying to get a callus to build up because it feels like I'm running on a blister but when I get done, it's just kinda sore skin but no blister. But I wondered if Pants is doing that cause I notice that I feel that in my calves more. Or if I go running after a long break.

I would say that pose method is more what I would typically do - I try to have a slight lean forward so that I'm going with gravity like they show.

I was always taught you are to be as vertically straight as possible. When I ran a lot.

We went to our last band concert last night (probably ever - the oldest is quitting after this year, the middle child already quit and the youngest one doesn't seem to be inclined). The daughter had a short solo (16 notes from the Theme from E.T.) in a John Williams medley and she hit all the notes. Some of these concerts, I just wanted to get them over, but now that it's done, I realize that I might miss them.

The main thing is to lean for speed and have your feet land directly under your hips. If you do it correctly, you'll be a mid foot striker, which is what you want to do. Pants might be heel striking (striding too far forward) then rolling his foot, which would create tightness like he's experiencing.

New thing I learned today in a different thread. If I became single, women are turned on by math equations. Solve a couple math problem and they are hopping in your bed. I better never become single again, because I wouldn't be ale to stand myself in those scenarios.

There are certain things that I am not looking forward to when my son (and hopefully more to come down the road) get to that point. Concerts and if they are in show choir or something like that are the biggest. I was in them forever and hated just sitting there all night. I especially hated show choir competitions. All day Saturday of performing once waiting for finals and performing again. We went to one cluster **** of one in Davenport one year that finals didn't even start until something like 9PM and we finally went on stage at midnight. After awards were done I think we left at like 1:30AM after getting there at 11AM.

Show choir? How does that differ for the regular choir? I never sang, I was forced into band and wasn't going to do both

yeah I would say I'm fore to mid. I suspect that I stride too far which might cause issues though I'm not really sure how to determine that. Have to see next time if I think my heels are landing under me. I feel like they land slightly ahead.

3 episodes next week. You gonna wait until it's all done ?

Possibly. Probably watch it later in the summer when there's nothing on PBS. Shows like POI and the Good Wife take longer because DH likes to watch too. I have a couple that I like so I'll watch them when I'm cross stitching and nothing else is on. But those two we watch together so it just takes longer.

here I'm hoping my kids will do things like choir and theater. Especially after hearing coworkers talk about sitting in cold rainy track meets earlier this week.

I typed heels but meant feet. But you get the picture ;). Easiest way to determine this is to have someone watch you/film you in slow mo. Or go to a running store and have them analyze it.

Better get that Russian trophy wife ready for the quick change.

I've been keeping it in my head that I need to go back and get fitted again now that I run more than I did the first time. Also to see if I need new shoes, though it seems a bit like asking a car salesman if I need a new car.
