I'm driving to Adel on Saturday to meet some puppies and their mom, and then I have to pick one.

They're listed as terrier mixes, the puppies were found at 7 weeks and had some skin issues from their previous living conditions. They are so freaking cute.

This is mom

There are also 3 boys.

I like the color patterns on Flopsie. :)

When we went up to meet Milo & Molly, it took about five seconds after the foster "parents" left the room for them to charm us. We were sitting on a bench. Milo jumped up on my lap, planted his feet on my shoulders and started head-bonking. Molly went for PapaLew's lap, snuggled up & tucked her head under his elbow.

I hope you find one to love (who will love you back) in that batch!

Flopsie, based on looks, is the one I'm most interested in. They have some very cute videos on the rescue facebook page, which I've probably watched 20 times already.

I'm just happy that I'm approved by them. The first rescue I tried going through rejected me right away because sophie's shots were out of date...by a month. They wouldn't listen to me that I'd had an appointment to try to fix that, but she was too sick at the time to get them.

That seems pretty inconsiderate considering she was sick, you took her in to get looked at and everything. :(

People can have conflicts, do some bad math or many things to be off a month. I know my kids didn't have their shots exactly when the calendar said. It's not like they never got them, but sometimes they tell you the doctor is out when you want to and the next opening is a month out. A few weeks or a month aren't going to be the end all. Seems pretty strict.

Yeah, they were pretty rude about it. I had donated to them in the past, will just do that for other rescues going forward.

This popped up on my facebook feed this morning. ;)

Good Lord Pants, you got the basketball guys' spinchters tight enough to make diamonds. Anything else like that and a new veishea riot will break out.

I'm amazed at how strict the process has become. All of our cats prior to Milo & Molly were walk-ons. They simply showed up at our home, or arrived still inside their mother. When Smudgy and Garf died (about a year apart), we still had Cricket (their sister) and Mel. Smudgy & Garf were extremely affectionate cats. Mel is also, but he is definitely PapaLew's cat. Cricket has always had a rather aloof personality...so I was left without a "cuddler" for me. That's why I started looking through petfinder.

The NE Iowa Humane Society (where I found M&M) had me fill out this whole long thing about pets we have/had, wanted the name of our vet, wanted two references...and they called and asked them a TON of questions about us and our cats. The only tripping point was that our cats are front-paw declawed, and they didn't approve of that. However, I'm adamant about spaying/neutering, so we had that going for us. :)

Considering Milo is currently draped across my arms while I'm typing this, I'd say they are pretty happy with us.

The best part is that I said something as a joke referring to how people would start panicking about the surgery (as CF is wont to do) and then some dude completely panicked by what I said, I ****ed with him by literally saying nothing and now like, ten people are all flipping out and furious at me for not divulging info. I wasn't even TRYING at first, just making a joke about how easily everyone panics on CF, and it resulted in everyone panicking on CF. These boards would make for an EXCELLENT psychological study.

Classic CF.

I had to fill out more paper work for a rescue than I did for a mortgage or a job.

I'm ok with this, actually. They're wanting to make sure the animals are going to a good home. Also, I'm sure they're concerned the animals will end up back there, as too often happens with humane societies, so they're trying to make sure it's going to be a permanent home for the animal.

I guess I would agree if it's a no-kill shelter that has good support, but if it's a shelter that euthanizes, maybe not being so strict would be better than killing? (forgive me if the shelter being no-kill part is obvious to everyone else, I just don't know whether that's common or not)

True this. Far cry from CWW#2 calling a friend of her's in California that rescued Basenjis. After a little long distance phone yadda yadda yadda and some talk with Boxster that was mostly "I want a Basenji again!" we were off to to the airport to pick up two Basenjis that had been shipped to us in a dog crate! Never had a dog as a pet. Never had a house pet. Then, boom, two house dogs!

After being rejected by the first rescue, I applied through the one in Des Moines, and one out of Kansas City. The application for KC wanted three references, and she asked quite a few questions of those references. I totally get wanting to get a pet into a good home that is going to keep it andnot be neglectful, but the process is much harder than just going to NHS
