I think a homily is like the part where the priest tries to draw a message from the bible into the real world in some way.

Oh, HELL no! We were 40 & 39 when we married. I was glad that wasn't a physical possibility for us...because the temptation was there to make one that was "both of us". I would have a kid in college right now, along with my granddaughter. Ummmm....nope.

My mom's favorite mug, which her sister gave her...on the appropriate birthday...says "I'd rather be 40 than pregnant."

Accidents happen - you can make it work. I'm just glad that particular accident would have never happened to us. :)

I liked the idea that we were empty-nesters at 45...plenty young to start doing some of the things we'd always wanted to do. Some of my friends my age are just NOW becoming empty nesters.

Nah, keeping familial harmony is probably better. He's already an Iowa fan, I don't need to give him even more ammo for the holidays

Well hopefully MBB will have just got done taking the Hawks to the woodshed, that will make the holidays go easier.

I think they still have one in high school but close to being empty.

If all goes according to plan we could be empty nesters by the time we are 55.

Same here. Confused by a lot of the communion talk. I think the Eucharist might be the wafer but I still think Homily is a kind of Southern food.
You're right on the Eucharist. Basically (and GTO should correct me if I'm wrong), the Catholic church teaches the idea of transubstantiation (the Eucharist and wine literally become the body and blood of ******). So because we aren't purified, we shouldn't hold the Eucharist, but instead have the priest put it directly onto our tongues. I think this stopped being widespread in the U.S. after Vatican II (a series of reforms during the 60's) but I think is still common in other parts of the world.

Yeah, and Wisconsin will be good too, so hopefully that helps

I don't want to make what I planned for tonight. Tempted to do the $5.99 Papa John's deal after a Cyclone win. Won't be able to take advantage of that much until bball season starts up again.

CG--my dad gets to do a "Coach for a Day" experience with the vball team. Participates in the team meal, coaches meeting, warm-up, etc. He asked the oldest 2 if they want to come along. He didn't ask me. :(

You're just not as special as a grandkid.

I'm that accident. I have a step sister who is 20 years older than I am, we've never really bonded because of the age gap (plus, she's crazy).

Damn, J, the rest of the men on RTT just left you out to dry here! I'll also admit that the mind does wander at times during church and unfortunately it sometimes goes in that direction. I catch myself sometimes, and try to think about something else (like what the pastor/priest is talking about). If you've ever watched Jim Gaffigan, he addresses this in one of his stand up routines (listen at 2:10):

Because I work weekends I rarely get to church but have had a few sundays off recently so I have gone last 2 weeks. I will also admit to a wander as well.
