anybody have a Linden tree? Or a yellow fall tree? Prefer something nice and big, going toward the back of the lot.

Trying to do something besides maple since we already have a couple of those we want to do....and looks like pretty much all of IA is the same zone as here.

They are one of the favorites for the Japanese beetle. Two years ago the lindens on the golf course I play at over by Stillwater were completely defoliated by the beetles while other trees on the course were essentially untouched. I'd ask at the nursry about that.

Also the cultivars for linden vary widely in size and shape. Some are big trees and some are fairly small.

Lindens are also uber fragrant with their inconspicuous green flowers. I like the smell but not sure I would for weeks on end. Oh, and bees!

hmm, I did see something about certain varieties being liked by the beetles. The one we are looking at is supposed to be more resistant.

Yup. And Oak, maple, ash, shagbark hickory, a few scrub cedar, and a whole bunch I can't name. Lots of variety in the colors...for about two days. Seems like every fall, we've had a high wind or heavy rain right at peak coloration. Gorgeous one day, bare the next. :(

Plus, she's already got a WDSM tree, does she also need Linden peeping on her?

since it will be at the back of the lot, not as worried about bees (will NOT be close to patio/window area!)....and kinda like that it's good for honeybees.

it does seem like that happens every year :(

We had an aspen growing up, but sounds like those aren't good to do....ash is out. Have to keep looking at what is good around here. Really wanted something yellow. And big.

This can really suck, but in time can also turn out to be the best thing. You want friends that have your back, not just ones that are there when it's convenient for them.

A few years ago I considered myself very close friends with a girl I worked with, her name was Ashley. We'd always hang out, go shopping, go drinking, worked at two different companies together. I helped her pass her securities exam, counseled her through dating a few ****** monsters, and she eventually asked me to be her maid of honor when she got engaged to her boyfriend.

I started coming up with ideas for her, letting her kind of be a bridezilla, until one day (which I was already having a bad day) she sent me a text asking if I'd be okay with not being a bridesmaid because she changed her mind and decided her future SIL needed to be in the wedding. I went from maid of honor/bff to can't even talk to me in person. There was the obligatory "I hope this doesn't ruin our friendship" text to her pretending I didn't exist at work.

In the end, it was for the best. I don't want people in my life that can't be mature and talk to me to my face, out that are completely selfish.

This is very much the way i'm feeling about it. It sucks, but at the same time seeing someone's true colors can be enlightening.

Grr, I am fuming right now. Called last week to get an issue with the van fixed after initial repairs. They tell me to come in today because last week they had no loaners. I show up this morning and they offer me a Camry. Won't work with 2 large carseats and 2 other kids. They give me the biggest piece of crap used van ever. Bald tires, everything trashed inside, no gas, and no dealer plate to offer me. I potentially have to drive this thing 75mi round trip tonight. Not happening, going back and telling them to give me my van back and reschedule when I can get an actual loaner car. The dealership should be embarrassed and I will be emailing the owner. Ridiculous.

Tell 'em you're thinking about trading up, want to test drive a Sequoia overnight.

that is nasty. When we got work done at home, we'd always get older van loaners too - party because it was a small place and also because 4 kids don't fit in a small vehicle.

Up here in the big city, if they don't have a loaner car or maybe if it's insurance, yeah I think when it's your own repair you get their car - which was a nice new Malibu. When it's been insurance paying, they take you to Enterprise to pick up a vehicle.

We've had a Green Ash in the yard of our 2 houses. They turn yellow in the fall. It does turn colors a week or two before the Maples. Ash trees may be hard to find now since the emerald ash borer thing.

And you should e-mail Tron. He finds out a fanatic isn't getting taken care of, he'll bust some heads.

Lucky for them, when I came back to turn in the pos mine was done. People will still hear about it. Tron sold us the van, our sales transaction went to the top with the way it was handled (not by Tron, by the guy who was trying to give us a value and screwed us over).

yeah they aren't recommended here anymore because of the borer.

And it must have been a Birch in our yard growing up, not Aspen. I don't live in Colorado, ha.

I am a little worried that once the rhubarb season ends, and it is soon ending, that I will lose my super powers.

And I hate the weather in MN again. Still. Always. I have a limited time frame before the rain hits and have to choose between yard seeding and biking. Damn you yard!

I forget what we have out front (planted by the city) but it is also a Japanese beetle favorite. Thankfully the past two years weren't as bad for those buggers. We don't have a huge backyard. We have an autumn blaze maple (red) and I can't remember what else right now. We have a birch out back and in front.
