School stuff
It may not be all that much better up here.

More politics but less nepotism.
More choices but more complications.
More activities but more temptations.

Our biggest issue with my daughter going to Drake is that the other girl going to Drake from our high school pretty much defines the word frenemy. They're both going to study the same major and minor. They are so much alike academically but, socially, they are totally different. My daughter tends to be pretty quiet and thoughtful. This other girl is extroverted and dramatic.

They can get along great but other times they just can't help but say negative stuff about each other.

Only one other kid in my sons class is going to Iowa State. He has asked my son to room with him several times, his mom has asked us about them rooming together several times. My son has no interest in rooming with him and we told think it not be a good fit so he has delayed it to the point where you can no longer happen.

My son is more of a team player, this kid is strictly about himself. So it’s kind of funny now that my son feels comfortable going to Iowa State but this kid is somewhat freaking out

I generally caution even best friends to avoid rooming together when starting at a new school. Maybe when you have a year or two under your belts find an apartment together. I have seen too many friendships destroyed by thinking it was a good idea to room together their freshman year.

That’s the odd part. These two don’t get along. We have been able to tell that this other kid has disliked our kid since young elementary age. Now he is trying to lean on our son to save himself but our son wants nothing to do with him.

If mom pushes just pull out the line I gave you. You don't want to ruin their friendship by putting too much stress on it.

But I guess you already said it is too late to request roommates.

There is no friendship to ruin My sons girlfriend will be going there also, which honestly is not a bad thing because her study habits will hopefully wear off on our son during that time.
