Random Thoughts IV

KC, if you are around, this question is one that only you are qualified to answer. I don't know if this is an old lady thing or a me thing, but if my husband went out and bought me panties and yoga pants, I would most likely whack him on the head. I can take care of my own arse and he has better things to occupy his time than buying women's intimate apparel and workout gear. It's not like I buy his underwear and jock straps. It just strikes me as overly preoccupied with that thing that men are already overly preoccupied about. But maybe that is just because I am old and easily creeped out, cause apparently the ladies here that aren't as ancient as me think it is a good thing. So what would you think of Papa Lew being a Victoria's Secret expert?

Well, I certainly apologize if my posting on that topic has offended you or made you uncomfortable, I won't do it in the future.

To fully discuss the topic in real terms, rather than simple "is this okay?" would take more time than I feel like putting into it, there's a whole lot of layers that go into sexuality (historically and presently), women's body issues (heck, even men's, TBF), trust amongst partners, and each individual's feelings on those topics etc. that play into whether one would be comfortable with someone buying them clothing (as KC said "under or over"), and to gloss over any of that would be ignoring a piece of a very complex puzzle.

I do, however, object to, and to be honest, am kind of insulted by, the seemingly implied sentiment that a man would have to be a perv or creeper to do so (and then, by extension, that I am that). Could they be? Yes, and I'd say that KC's story of her first hubby is a situation where 'that's not okay'...but not all situations are that.

Yes, I've referred to going to VS to get my wife skivvies with the coupon, but the ones I'm getting are plain old skivvies...they're not dental floss and a postage stamp...and I'm getting styles that she has said she wants...they're no more revealing than a bikini bottom. Do I get some sort of thrill out buying them? No...it's just that it's on my way to work, it's across town from her work, and it prevents a special trip to the mall just for a pair of free undies, 'cause she's not just going to pass up a pair of free undies. Am I window shopping while I'm in there? No, the stuff in there is not stuff she'd be comfortable wearing. I find the first sales lady (or guy, there's a gay guy who works in the CV one...how 'bout that to blow your mind?) and hand her the coupon and say "My wife asked me to stop on the way to work, where are these?" I find her size and style (I guess I have some input on the color, I suppose) and go to the checkout. I don't give them my e-mail address to 'get special offers', I tell them my wife is already on it. And then, yes...a VS bag sits in my car in the parking lot at work. I think I've probably covered it at times, but I'm sure there are times I haven't...it's a fuggin pair of underwear, it's not a sex toy or something.

I believe Carvers was asking me specifically because I am older than most of the ladies in here, with a mother's body and different fashion taste. It was not an indictment of anyone's purchasing habits. It was more of a "one older woman to another - is it just because we're older?" type thing.

If you chose to read it another way, and perhaps take it personally, I can't help that. It was your questions about your wife's reactions that started the topic originally...it's a little late to be upset about the topic now. Additionally, you might notice that several times I referred to myself as not being like other women (not liking frilly, not liking shopping, yadda yadda). Some, perhaps many women DO like having pretty things bought for them. My stepmother certainly did.

It did seem a little pointed towards 00....not saying it was intended that way, but it seemed it.

I think your men can find the compromise; a nice oversized fine cotton buttoned sleeping shirt. Kinda man cut but fine Egyptian cotton (for gods sake I am not going to suggest silk, oh the laundry horrors!)
Stylin'!

My work here is done, time to just:

I really can't respond to this without freaking every single guy on this thread out. But buying me sleepwear is a waste of money. :)
