I had both my Ash trees cut down this winter, I planted those 25 years ago so it was a sad day.

I took down the ash tree in front of our house last May. :(

Watched a horror movie called C.O.R.N. this weekend. What a truly dreadful movie. I can get a kick out of a bad horror but this was horrible.
The idea behind it wasn't terrible but the execution was just terrible.

Check with the NRSC at the county Farm Services Office they may be able to help you build a windbreak. Also ISU Extension could point you in the right direction.
we actually planted 4 new red maples last spring out front!

not much of a windbreak from them but they'll look good

I've got 2 large maples on the west side of my house. They help so much during the summer with helping keeping the house cool.

That's why I planted the maple tree in my front yard. Sadly it started dying a few years ago and I had it removed while he was cutting down the ash trees. It was a "you can pay me now or pay me later" kind of situation.

That was why we lost the ash we weren't planning to remove when they took out the other three trees to put in the addition, deck & gazebo. It was a little further down the hill and it was going to stay and provide shade for the deck. The tree guy climbed it to use as an attachment point for his rope while he was swinging around the tops of the other trees, cutting branches. While he was up there, he realized how unhealthy it was...basically rotting from the inside out. There were fungi all over the top half, and a giant carpenter ant nest at the base of it. So it came down with the other trees. :(

Hope they do well. Watch for chlorosis, it's a common issue for red maples. Sun scald can also be a problem for young trees.

There are lots of images for chlorosis on good old Google, to help you know what to look for, doesn't always look as extreme as some images, at least initially

I've peaked out for the day.
Kiddo has a bag just packed with fidgets. She's using that as her bag for flute today. I managed to use those fidgets like a wall in order to keep her music book straight AND zip the bag closed.

I won't top that today. I'll just bask in the glory for a while.
Wut?

Just heard a bunch of horn honking and wondered what was going on. The kids usually like to honk their horns when leaving school, but school ended last week. Then I thought maybe kids getting back from state track, but that was also last week. Went on for about 10 minutes before I got in my car and went to find what was going on. UP Maintenance of Way convoy was coming through.

I guess I'm an *******.

FedEx truck pulls up in front of our house. Keep in mind that our street is a main drag through our neighborhood with lane markings, one lane in each direction and a marked parking lane on either side. FedEx driver stops truck in driving lane with truck pointed in wrong direction even though parking lane has only one car in it for the entire block on either side. He proceeds to go to the back of the truck and rummage around for about 3 minutes before hopping out of the truck to bring package to our door. His truck is blocking the traffic lane for the entire time. I stepped out to accept the package which he couldn't hand to me because he had to take 3 picture of it on my step. I get it, rules are rules. All the while I debated about whether to say something to him about blocking traffic. I finally tried to be as diplomatic as possible and say, "Everyone gets that you guys need to double park at times. But when there is a whole empty parking lane drivers sure appreciate it when you aren't blocking the driving lane." He said, "What? Are you talking to me?" I assured him I was. He kind of rolled his eyes and walked away.

So was I an ******* for bringing it up?

Some political telemarketer just asked if they could count on me being at this rally and said tickets are going fast. First, if they were going fast, why are they calling me. Second, it is like 5 hours away. Third, I don’t even know who this person is. Fourth, I’m not Effing Todd!!!

Not an *******. They are rated on how efficient they are with delivering packages with little to no regard for their driving conduct.
