Was in group of 8 people at Wood Lake Nature Preserve late afternoon. Was sort of half looking to see this Kentucky Warbler. It had been spotted maybe 20 minutes before, I missed it, peeps had lost sight of it in the understory growth. One of the gals walked maybe 5 feet off the path, not disturbing any undergrowth or anything and this old bastard starts chippering at her to get back on the path like she was a five year old. Than he gets louder and more obnoxious reaching a crescendo where he loudly called her a *****. I stepped in front of him and and said something like "Uncool, dude. Knock it off. AND WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE!" He backed off some and half ass apologized but was still chirping some. What an ass. Of course his enabling spouse said nothing, bet she's seen this before.

These super jerks are all the same and when you see them go jerk you know you are seeing the real them. Jerk old guy and wife than left. Pretty much everyone there was telling the gal they had her back. She had just stopped to try and spy this bird before picking her kids up from day care for gods sake. Her little kids who love birds so much the family cars had owl names. And some **** calls her a *****.

Are kid's birthday parties now a days frequent or is it just me? And where it's adults and all sorts of family members as well?

When I was a kid my parents had a couple parties but it was like going to pizza hut (kid friends only) and mom and dad would pickup the tab. Not nearly as frequent.
My kids just have sleepovers and we will go to a restaurant that they choose or get some pizzas. It's pretty much the same for their friends. We did bigger parties when they were younger but their groups of friends are getting figured out now.

Is there actually any rule that staying on the path is mandatory?
Even if there was one person being careful isn't the end of the world.

The preserve rules are to stay on the paths but there are plenty of side paths that I am not sure classify as "paths'. It's a pretty soft rule, it's not a real sensitive habitat area. I'd guess they might only say something if you were trampling off path in the prairie area. I wouldn't have had a problem if the guy had politely said "I won't go any further of the path . Preserve rules are to stay on the path." but he went crazy aggressive even when she said she wasn't going any further. Just an angry man looking to go off on someone. He went from zero to one hundred in about five seconds.

Me, I mostly stay on the paths if only to help avoid ticks. They are everywhere. I did spray down my Merrill hiking shoes and my Columbia cargo pants with Permethrin and give my legs and socks a shot of DEET.

I have a STRONG dislike for over reaching people.

My apologies for any confusion over my post last night. I edited the original post.

Lew is currently out by the shop moving a pile of used bricks. His bone marrow biopsy showed significant infiltration by the CLL, so the pill we were hoping to avoid has now become pretty much a necessity. It's not a cure; it forces the CLL back to the original site and out of the marrow to create space for the marrow to do its job - making more blood cells. He will be on this pill for the rest of his (hopefully long) life. If he stops taking it, odds are strong that the CLL will advance again.
There were two other options. One involved a daily pill and a monthly immunosuppressant infusion for a finite period (one year). No guarantee that the CLL will not come back after that, and he would end up on the other pill anyway. And his doc didn't recommend it because of the amount of travel we do. The infusion would require a much higher level of social distancing and sanitizing and avoiding enclosed spaces with other people, and the suppression effects last longer than the actual treatment. Basically, we'd be stuck at home for at least a year, more likely a couple of years.
The other option was to do nothing, to "wait and see" like we've been doing for the past 5+ years since the diagnosis. He didn't recommend that. He said the time for that was past, and it was better to "pull the trigger" on treatment now, rather than wait until things got even more complicated.

As far as Lew's health is concerned, we're good. We figure we're lucky he has a strong constitution, and the issues he's had have been comparitively minor and/or treatable. Sorry if I misled any of you with my vague posting last night.

DMACC finally sent me a link for the mandatory Canvas training. Spent about 10 minutes, learned nothing, but now I'm in the system.

I found their checklist to import a course from Blackboard. Of course, their system can move anything except the actual things I use, like links, assignments, etc.

I moved the first couple weeks of fall's course. It's all the bother I remember from Canvas at ISU. Oof.

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned going to Les Mis at Linn-Mar and as normal being blown away by the talent we have in the community. Well, the lead (Jean Valjean) was also the lead soloist and fiddle player in LM's national champion show choir, he also won some national singing award last year and is now...a Presidental Scholar. He will certainly be one to watch in the future.

Found a tick when I got home. Hadn’t set yet and was able kill it easily. Went and bought some big spray.
Celebratory brew after the kill?

UW scheduled move out day for their residence halls the same day as graduation. Smart.
I think that’s similar to when I was at ISU. The last day you could move out was graduation day. Do they do something different?

Well congrats on the teaching gig
